Fox Float RL AVA rear shock

Hey guys, haven't been on the forum for ages so not sure what people have been doing to their EVO's lately but mines been retired in favour of a Heckler so have parted out the bike to a friend who has a EVO and wanted a disc swingarm, he wants to upgrade the shock as well so just wanted to see if anyone has fitted a Fox Float RL AVA rear shock to a Medium EVO, he can get a Vanilla R and a Fox Float rear shock I know we can fit the Vanilla no worries but without having a Float to try I'm not sure if he has the clearance, so if anyones has done this conversion on a Medium frame I'd love to know if there is enough clearance.

Here's a picture of a Fox Talas from OP's gallery. I'm guessing similar modification would need to be made to make an AVA fit. Not a big deal to grind a bit off the swingarm mounts - I did the same thing for my Manitou Swinger 3-way.

Thanks dude, thats what I thought may need to be done to clear the valve, I'll see if he is keen to modify the swingarm or not but I reckon the Float is a better shock for him,

I got mine on eBay. Brand new with a Buy it Now of $125. I couldn't submit my bid fast enough! (Thanks to someone on this forum for giving a heads up on the auction). It was from a Trek Liquid - that's the stock eye to eye length on the Liquids. Fits perfectly (with a little modification to my swingarm mount - see my gallery for pics).

Hello, I did that very upgrade a year ago. here's what I said back a while after:
"A Float RL AVA. I got the 7 7/8" or200mm leagth and made an adapter to make it longer. Now this worked well because (bear with me because I have lost my drawings) the adapter effectiveately made the shock 215mm. Now on my 5500 I was supposed to run 8mm of sag on a 209mm length shock, so while you are sitting on the bike the shock should be 201mm long. Now the Fox wanted 13mm of sag so that makes 202mm ride height. Now an extra mm or 2 eithe way should be considered well within the relm of personal feel. My adapter is very light and stong. And I put the same shock in my fork as well, which was the expensive/complicated part. They work awsome! I'm sure the RP3 is only that much better. I would love to post my drawings if only I could find them."
My bike is a Large 5500, and pics are in my gallery. I can get better pics if you really want. Hope this helps.
