x57 rear strut dissasembly; waiting for parts..
« on: April 17, 2006, 10:45:42 am »
Waiting for parts to arrive by mail... very painful thing.

while I am waiting, I want to strip the yellow paint from the rear strut.  I want to remove the shock from the strut to do this.

Looking at the strut assembly diagarma, it looks like a hex screw and washer hoolding the thing together, but even with the screw out, the thing wont come apart!

Do i need to pry the thing out, or does the thing "unscrew" out?

All you need to do is remove the bolt from the bottom of the shock and it should come apart. The strut and the bottom "cone" part of the shock should not be seized. There is usually some blue threadlocker put on at the factory. But that's just for the bolt...150 inch pounds of torque.

I like to loosen the bolt while it's still on the bike, that way, I don't twist/turn the shock shaft. or I put it in a vise.
