I'd say that's a good max for an all-around fork, but some people have put more on them for "downhill" rigs that they seemed to like. I would think anything over 6" (150mm) would be WAY too slack, although up to that would be okay - especially if it were an adjustable fork that goes down to 100mm...

I am running 6 inch fork with on the fly 2 inch drop. In conjuction with 8.5 inch i2i shock, it is magic and I will never go back to stock.

The last fork on my oz was a 3/5 inch RS Psylo, but was a tad flexy, It was a major improvement over the carbon crosslink, until the pure damper exploded.

well i got a new fork, manitou black comp 90-120mm travel with rtwd and spv evolve, pedals very well at the 120mm setting with hardly any bob, im impressed! its put a pound of weight on the bike but i guess im never going to be an xc racer so what the heck, its turned into a wonderfully smooth all day trail bike. anyone wanna buy my old mars air forks? very lightweight 80mm travel perfect for the weight weenies in here at 1374grammes. anyway here is the latest incarnation
