My new offroad 952 TV table project
«

Here the base for my latest project.
http://idriders.com/cgi-bin/album_k2.pl?photo=proflex252/CIMG1322.JPG
I want to build up a TVset table with that frameset as a platform. So everyday I'm hanging around in front of my teli I will have a scenic view on that frame.
Has anyone experience with stuff like that?
I got that frameset brandnew and never built up. Unfortunately I allready got too many bikes. More than I can ride. So this one has to end as a style object.

Hi there,
Shouldn't be too difficult if you put your mind to it.... start with some sketches of what you have in mind, dimensions and the like.... then just get a fabrication firm to knock it up for you.
I might be inclined to make the entire thing modular, so that you can attach the table legs or base platform to the dropouts and bottom bracket and then attach the top platform to the seatpost and steerer tube/handlebars.
If it becomes too tall, which is possible, then play with the idea of leaning the frame over, so that the "table" has a Z form when looked at from the side.
Either way, I think I would use bolts and modular assembly, partly as I live in Sweden, land of IKEA, and partly as you won't destroy the frame of paint, which is what will happen if you go for welding.
Tell you what.... if you have two frames... I'll make two tables for you... in exchange, I'll keep one of them.
Take it easy,
Hammer.

Sorry! I'll have to renounce your offer.
First: I only got one frameset so I can't give you the other.
Second: I have a lathe and a mill and I want to do all the work myself as it is a alternation for my office job.
The "Z shape" is a pretty good idea to reduce height. I'll keep this in mind. Thank you.
And I won't do any welding because I don't want to destroy the frame. I love proflex too much to do this.

Here a pic of a table made of a san andreas frame. I saw this at a marathon here in Bavaria.
Really cool thing I think!

Unfortunatelly I aint got no 42 plasma.
Only a 32 inch normal TV set.
Must be enough for the begining.
I'll post a pic when the table is ready.

That looks good. I was reading your post then was floored when you mentioned the very idea of modifing the beautiful 252. The picture explains everything. It looks really clean.
What is your idea for the top. It would need to be glass to show off the frame from above.
Are you aware the suspension is still active with that setup. Be sure to set the sag to 25 to 30% in a 50/50 weight dispertion.
Maybe if you make a steel or aluminium box to phisically hold the counter top and suspend the bike inside the box section in a flat or upright position.

952 my friend ionit! 952!
The 252 is still on the road and it works perfect with its 28 inch race tires. Really a dream!
To the 952:
On the top there has to be a glas of course. I will have to look for one of those plates on some flea markets.
And because the TV set has some cables which would look very annoying, there has to be a sheetmetal behind the frame to cover the cables.
I tend to use one of those, oh f.... how is it called in English, ah just looked it up, checkered plates. Over the total length.
I think it brings this industry touch to the table.
The same for the bottom plate on which the frame will be mounted. Similar to the stone bottom plate of the san andreas.
And as the BB is on ground level the system is not active anymore. The frame stands on three points so.
And I will cut the sheet metal exact to the height of the frame. So it will support the glas plate, too.
The Flexstem bumper will be removed and replaced by a aluminum laithed part. So this part will not flex, too.
Should be good looking and working well. I hope so.
Any other suggestions or improvements? I'm open for all support.
CU and keep on proflexing!

Correction taken. 952. The sheet metal bottom platel will keep the axles stationary. That is really all you need to keep the front and rear wheel from sliding apart.
