i'm setting up my spare 4500 xtr setup for a guy 6' 2' and 220 to use for a couple of weeks

you think a 600 rear spring and something about 250 on the crosslink would work for him?

250 should be okay for an X~link but i'd pop a 650# *at least* on the back

I would say leave the 250 on the x-link and go to a 650 on the rear. I am 6'3" and 215lbs & that is what I am using and it is as close to purfect set up for good xc riding. You like it!  8)
