Chip in the Carbon X-link question
« on: July 25, 2005, 12:31:43 pm »
Hey guys....  I have a tiny chip on my Carbon X-links.  The chip is about 8mm by 6mm and only the outer layer of the carbon chipped off.  I managed to find the "chipped" piece and superglue it back on the fork legs.  There wasn't a hole, or anything like that....  I should be ok right?  Shouldn't crack right?  It seems pretty solid.

I am no carbon expert, but I think as long as the carbon weave is not damaged, it  should hold up with the repair. The plastic is just there to hold the carbon in place.

Having some experience with carbon and having learnt it on job I must ask you if there was carbon material on that chip?
If yes there could be stability probs.
On aircrafts there is a major procedure if theirs a crack or something in the cfc.
But carbon normaly is able to withstand more than one might think. So, if it was only 8 by 6 mm it should be ok. That's if it was only the first layer.

Hey boys...

I'm going to buy some "tall" X-links from a member, just wanted to ask if Ic an swap fork legs over between the two forks?  They are all the same size right?

The reason why I am asking is because I believe his forks are 190mm....and my stock ones are 120mm?  My frame size is WayBig  (says on the frame).
