uk coast to coast done and dusted ( bloody hard wo
« on: July 03, 2005, 07:33:46 am »
well ive finally put a tick in one of my boxes in life this weekend. ok it may not be a very hard thing to do but ive ridden the coast to coast here in the good old uk. ive actually managed 147 miles even though its only supposed to be 137, in 13 hrs 10 mins ( dunno if thats good or bad) one thing i do know is my ar*e hurts  lol.  there was a group of seven of us riding but unforunately one one my fellow riders had to pull out after suffering very badly in the heat. that left us down to six and we soldiered on.  come the hills and we found a total star, sue! she totally kicked my arse as soon as the road pointed uphill, steve her boyfriend though is on a totally different planet when it comes to climbing ( he went past me in the big ring when i was in a rythmn in the granny!!!)and some of it must have rubbed off on her they were definately the king and queen of the mountains ( much respect from me i must add) finally i must add that the tyres i used were superb  panaracer mach ss semi`s  they were great for both on and off road.  now how do i get rid of the sunburn??

Well Done!
sub 14 Hrs! very impressive!
Does this include stops or is it just ride time?
10 mph average over a day like that is pretty good going!
I bet the reason Sue was always ahead of you was so that she didn't have to look at your arse............<GRIN>
Good to hear those Mach SS's were good, as you know I wasn't impressed with mine on grass, but they're probably not meant for that!
Where did you get your route from?
Which way did you go, E to W or vice versa?
Is there any transport to the end points or were you dropped off, picked up?

P.s the sunburn will peel off.............leaving fresh baby soft skin underneath.....just like an expensive skin peel treatment, only more painful!

Well done!

Well done mate!

It is always very satisfying when you have done something that is personally challenging. Give your self a pat on the back.

3 Saturdays ago I atte, pted the 100m off road South Downs way in a day and got to 87miles when lackof ight stopped play. I was held up by slower riders in the group. So..... I did it again and completed it the following saturday so I know exactly waht 13 and jhalf hors in the saddle feels like (15.5 hours elapsed tme)

colin, we started at whitehaven on the west coast and finished with a sprint at sunderland ( i kicked with about half a mile to go and gave them no chance  ;) ) we had an overnight stop in garrigill to sample some very fine real ale and a juicy steak! a couple of friends drove us to whitehaven and picked us up at sunderland but we had a support van meeting us at strategic points along the way which was just as well when one the lads fell ill. have a look at the c2c website for more pics and info.

i also forgot to add that as a group we managed to raise about £1400 in sponsor money to be donated to the `british heart foundation` so it was well worth the pain :)

Well done Mate! An excellent result for BHF!
I've done the London 2 Brighton many times for BHF but got fed up doing it as it was:
a) too easy (58 miles)
b) too crowded (27000 cyclists)
c) too dangerous..( my brother got knocked off and received 3 stitches)

Shame I didn't realise you were doing this for BHF or I would have asked to gatecrash your party! If there's a chance of a re-match give me a shout!

I think you were eminantly sensible to do it over two days and I'm sure the ales and steaks were well earned!

Cheers
