Blasphemy?????

To make a long story short....It is time to buy a new bike and I am seriously considering a 2005 Specialized Stumpjumper Disc.  It is LIGHT.  I'm going to keep my EVO. Anyone here ever return to "the hardtail"?

Light is nice. That's why I built my singlespeed...  

However, I still don't like riding hardtails offroad much. For certain types of trails, they're great (i.e. smooth singletrack), but for any rough, fast riding, it's hard to go back. I have semi-slick tires on my Hardtail, which is perfect for the type of riding it's best suited for.

There's something to be said for an MTB that weighs 5-10lbs less than you're used to! Even if it's a rougher ride, it's still so light that it can make most rides fun. Bottom line: variety is NICE.  

(PS. It's hard to beat the Stumpjumper. Just make sure you have some lightweight, but high-volume tires to make your ride as nice as possible).

if you ride smooth trails, a hardtail is still a blast, but any bumpy will make you cry for more cush.

You will really notice the light part of riding the hardtai vs your EVO

ditto Matno on the tires, too.

if you get a light FS, like a Sugar or Razorback, you might shelf your EVO, ...if you ride mostly XC anyway...just a thought.

but it's more fun to have a variety in your stable to choose

not blasphemy, I am currently in the process of building up a Giant carbon HT with marzochhi fork to replace my steel mongoose HT with xlink which I just took apart.

light is right, sometimes.

I agree with Carbon Angus, its nice to have a variety of bikes from which to choose depending on the ride.
