Nylon washers for Oz rear shock mount
« on: April 01, 2003, 05:10:51 am »
Has anyone placed nylon washers between the bushing and carbon fiber frame at the upper mount of the rear shock.  Anyone have any wear problems here with the bushings on the carbon fiber/plastic?  I found a couple of very thin ones recently and was considering shaving a bit off the bushings to fit them in.  Any comments.

I did use nylon spacers when I experimented with an air shock on my 5500C (Oz).  I had no problems with them at all.  They come in quite a variety of widths from my local hardware store, so they were easy fit.  I will qualify this by saying that I did not stay with th air shock long.  But, I think it was long enough and I don't think that there should be any long term problems.

i've not but as long as there's no play there after snugging down the crossbolt, you should have no wear and tear on the cf plates -

i.m.h.o. the use of nylon there could eventually lead to play there but should work as long as you keep an eye on it.

"GET"-just wondering what air shock ou used and why you swapped out and what to?  As to nylon-I saw them and was going to use 'em but found a steel washer/beer can shim sized my SmartShock from the 5000 perfectly into the Oz spacing.

I installed a Fox Alps-5R.  You still see the 4R and 5R pop up on eBay from time to time.  I am not a suspension expert, so I'm not sure exactly how to describe its response.  Not that it was bad, but it was not what I was used to with the coil-over shock.  I just prefered the "feel" of the coil-over.  For example, jumping over roots and small deadfall seems easier with the coil-over.  The air shock does offer the advantage of being lighter and gave a little more travel than the Noleen.
