Replacement rear shock 4500
« on: November 01, 2004, 10:45:29 am »
I think it's about time for me to get a new rear shock on my Proflex 4500.  Are there any shocks that someone has put on that could be recommended?  thanks

I'm also wondering what the eye to eye measurement of the stock shock is.

Sorry Simon, did'nt see your post. 208 or 209 mm , no big deal. But it looks like you are going for that extra travel eh?

I have a Vanilla RC circa 2002-03 model year that is 7.7875" i2i for sale.  Bumps up your travel to something in the range of 6" I think.  You can see pictures of it in my gallery.  It rides awesome but upgraded to a 8.5" b/c I put in a longer travel fork and wanted to balance it out.  The ride was 10x better than with my Smartshock that was on it before.

Ask around a lot of people have this setup and have loved it.  You are going to have to get the bushings made for it, but I have the schematic in the Files section that will allow for you to get it made.

$130 shipped in the US.

Apparently that extra 1mm can make all the difference [smiley=laughing.gif]
only measured mine with a rule, like you say give or take a mm.

5500c,      what is the stroke on that fox shock, in order to bump travel up around 6" ?

I am currently looking for a new rear shock and considering all options. Would prefer to go with an air shock.

Does anybody have a Cane Creek cloud 9 on their oz ?

thanks Ed

I once contacted Cane Creek regarding using one of there cloud nine shocks on an Oz,they said they wouldn't recommend it as it is only designed to accept compression loads and is not designed to take the sort of lateral loads that the Oz's suspension design would apply.

Kind of a bummer, what attracted me to the C.C. is the ability to service it at home with no special tools.

so a Fox or Risse ( air ) is better suited for the oz?thing

More input please ...

thanks Ed

For an air shock I don't think you can beat the Risse at the moment for an Oz.

It's the 7.7875" x 2.2 or 2.3 inch stroke.  I forget exactly but it is what all of the other guys on the site have put on theirs.  The shock is awesome.  Much more plush than my smart shock.
