Spring Rates
« on: October 25, 2004, 10:47:46 pm »
Hi,
Anyone know the right spring rates for a NR4 and a NR2 on a 4000 or a 5500 if they are expressed in lb's per inch?

(I might be buying a 3rd party supplier spring and I'm not sure which weight to buy)

I weigh about 200lb and do XC mainly.

from the K2 site "spring chart" I've got the following:
Rider Weight (lbs) Spring Rate Part Number(s)
up to 140    350/400  (350 - SM) NB175-350X
130-170      500          (MD) NB175-500X
160-200      550          (LG) NB175-550X
190-230      600          (WB) NB175-600X
230 +         650                  NB175-650X

Is the second column, the "lb's per inch" rating?

also crosslinks - the same question
up to 140   175         NB2L-175X
130-170     200         NB2L-200X
160-200     200        NB2L-200X
190-230     225        NB2L-225X
230 +         250        NB2L-250X

Thanks
Col.

My understanding is the NB175 stands for the stroke eg 1 3/4" (to fit a shock with a 1 3/4" stroke) no good fitting this spring to a 2" stroke shock as the coils would bind and eventually lead to spring failure, and the other number, eg 400 stands for 400lbs per square inch
NB2 stands for 2" stroke
The X at the end is a prefix indicating if there is a part number with a B =black R=red Y=yellow, I find the chart confusing in that application
From the chart you require (I believe you have an Oz)
Rear NB2-550B (2"STROKE 550LBs)
Front NB2L-200X (2"STROKE 200LBs) assuming you have a crosslink CS,C,ELT,EXP
Hope I'm correct but thats how I understand it,others may have there own interpretation.
