Fenders (mudguards) - out muddies two 2004 Enduros
« on: October 07, 2004, 08:44:23 pm »
Yeh,
I'm interested in OP's fenders......oooh err Missus!
seriously though, I've never been of the "you can't have mudguards (fenders) on a mountainbike" school and have always had them on bikes wherever possible.
Now that's the difficult part, "wherever possible" I havn't been able to find a front one to fit the Vector II's on my XP-X and now I'm the proud owner of a 4000 and a 5500 and would really like something to keep the Bucks/Beds Clay/Chalk off of my back!
OP's ideas look good, plenty of info on modding the front one to fit, but what is that back one?
and how did you fit it?

Dennis' Blue Crush with Mud Machine rear fender looks great but $50 a piece and it's not long enough?
(and you can't get them in the UK yet)

So, still looking, anyone got any other ideas, photos?

OP's rear fender was made from a Headlands Backscratcher fender (which are no longer made, but you may be able to find one online somewhere). Last I checked, they were about $8. He cut off the mounting clamp (it's designed to clamp onto your seatpost) and then cut two slots into the body for the two sides of the shock mount. Make sure the slots are a tight fit for the mount. To mount it, you remove the rear shock bolt, put the fender into place, then replace the shock, which should hold the fender rather tightly in place. (That's just my crude explanation, I'll check and see, because I'm pretty sure I've got OP's more detailed instructions somewhere. They also might be in the "files" section of this site).
