Tech Forum / noleen shock gauge and filler( and noleen shocks)
« Last post by kiwi on May 11, 2020, 01:45:52 am »
Hey guys i am after some guidnace here.
I have ,in my possesion a Noleen  Racing Industries inc NB-2009  shock guage(sic) &filler kit.It consists of a couple of needles,o rings ,not very specific instructions and a gauge and manifold assembly with various valves and an adapter to affix the needle.
I have absolutely no recollection where/how I got it.I only found it today tidying up a jumble of little boxes i tend to keep to send very occasioanl packages.
Also somewhere i have a couple of noleen shocks.I still have the 756 but i havent ridden it for years, tending to ride a road bike instead.I intend to keep it running order but i dont think i will wear it out.So....IS this stuff of interest to anyone here, would prefer to keep it "in house"
I apologise for not posting in the buy sell swap thread but thought it may go under the radar there.Dont forget i live on the other side of the world and any freight exercise may be a lengthy one!

I agree with Kiwi,
IMHO a 656 is not in the same class as a 756, it's a very different, older generation and you will struggle to refit the rear suspension.
$500 seems very high!

656 is a different bke than the 756.Its suspension set up is still 1994.Look at images of the 756 and 656 on google. The front forks of the 656 attach to the handle bar stem,So the bars themselves can be changed easily.I am not sure of the viability of finding ssupensuion components for a 656

Tech Forum / proflex 656 tips?
« Last post by Sirtim0thy on May 07, 2020, 05:22:37 pm »
Hello

New here, this forum looks to be not the most active but I decided to come here and see if there are any enthusiasts left here...

I used to have a 756 last year until someone stole it. It was completely stock, and all the suspension was starting to wobble/shake. I really missed it though, and still do. These bikes have a charm not many do.

Now...

I came across a 656 in this guys garage I was working in, and he offered to sell it. 500$ asking price.

Is this reasonable? Seems a bit high to me.
Is there any significant differences between the 656 and 756 i should be aware of before seriously bartering with him for this machine?
The front part (name?) that the handlebars attach to was changed for a more upright riding position. will this affect my experience much?
Looking into upgrading the suspension to coil/springs. is this feasible with this particular model?

Thanks in advance, and hopefully there are still some active members on here, looking to meet some cool people to chat with about biking, im pretty illiterate but love the sport :)

Tech Forum / 5500 for sale in CO
« Last post by Qmulus on May 04, 2020, 02:25:28 pm »
I am not sure that anyone looks here anymore, but I am hoping to find a good home for my bike with a ProFlex enthusiast.  I have a '98 K2 ProFlex 5500 that I am looking to sell in great condition.  The 5500 was the version of the 5000C that was available only as a frameset.  I am the original owner and built it up from the brand new frame in '98 with all the carbon fiber parts that I could find at the time.  It has the original carbon Girvin fork in its final form with all updates,  Noleen Smart Shocks front and rear (no leaks, replaced the troublesome button covers with original parts when new), with two different (original yellow) rear springs.  XTR, shifters, brake levers, rear derailleur and brakes, Easton CT4 carbon handle bar and seat post, XT front derailleur and 175mm crankset, Mavic CrossLink wheelset, Gore RideOn cable set with yellow boots.  Weyless carbon bottle cage.  Fizik Nisene saddle.  All the components are '98/'99 vintage and have the black/red/yellow color scheme of the frame and forks.  I have the magazine review of the bike from '98 that will go with it

I had been riding it on and off over the years and always kept it in excellent shape.     It had a nick or scratch here and there on the black bar ends, crank arm ends, and plastic seat wear surfaces, but looks as close to new as you will find.  All decals are intact and in excellent shape.  I was going a set of Spin carbon wheels and slicks to use as a city bike, but I have too many bikes.  This has to go.  Would like to start at $1250 shipped in the CONUS, but entertaining all offers.   No offer will offend me, but I may just plain ignore them if I feel they are too low.  Sorry.  Local pickup or even delivery in Denver area is also possible.

Tech Forum / Re: Noleen NR-5 SmartShock - self-service or sell?
« Last post by PaulieP on May 02, 2020, 02:53:36 am »
noleen still exists you know   ;D

Yes I already know. They charge $100 to service NR1,2,and 4, not including shipping both ways. NR5 is a different beast .

I intentionally did not mention them as an option as it costs the same money to get a new airshock from Asia, or a good used Fox/RockShox airshock, for the same money as a single factory Noleen service.

Even less if I rebuild myself. All I lack is the procedures/guide.

Does anyone have the factory Noleen Shock Service guide? Not the one in downloads, the official factory one....

Does anyone still have one of these they'd be willing to part with? Or would be willing to lend to have schematics made and reproduced?

Or last option does anyone have Mike Hammer's current contact info? Thanks

Tech Forum / Noleen NR-5 SmartShock - self-service or sell?
« Last post by PaulieP on April 30, 2020, 10:31:57 pm »
Hi all. Have an NR 5 SmartShock that is in my crosslink, that has leaked all it's oil out. It looks new But the seals are given out due extreme age since I've only ridden that bike maybe 20 times.

Has anyone actually self-serviced any of the smart shocks? If so any tips on what is different than doing an NR2 service, provided you have a pump, needle, fork oil, and the Noleen service and seal kit?

The other alternative is simply to try and sell it as is as a collector item or fixer upper, and to get a viable length/stroke replacement new or used.

Used: (models under 100 on eBay)
Fox 210x55 air
RockShox 216x63 air
X Fusion O2 210x50

New:
DNM RCP 2/3 210x61 coil/oil+piggyback $92 shipped
DNM AO-38RC air 210x53 $92 shipped
DNM std coil/oil 220x60 $70-75 shipped

So weighing my options. If it were just an NR2 I'd just rebuild it.

Any tips appreciated. Thanks.
