Hi Chaps,
I think the 14-16 18 etc are theoretical as if the top tube was straight without the kink my medium when a line is drawn through to the seat tube without the kink measures 16" this way, I asked years ago how they were measured and someone far more wise than me told me how to get the size, I`m fairly sure Mrs Tels 857 worked out this way too for a large size.

I have a large 855 that I am selling. It has a frame crack near the swingarm attachement point (one of the predicted spots). It would be good for swing arm/parts. Elastomers are rocks. Willing to send overseas if you foot the bill.

Hi guys I have an old Proflex Beast not sure of model number (856?) that originally had the polymer shocks but was converted to GTS shocks. The rear unit has long since blown and have been running on Max shock loading only. Can anyone suggest a suitable replacement unit, with adapters etc if required please? Maybe someone still has one to sell? I have just joined and not waded through the posts yet.

Hi All,

i am completly rebuilding a K2 Proflex 5000 but my frame`s bottom bracket seems to be really really stuck and broken.
Therefore i am looking for a Frame (just the main frame only, i still have the carbon rear)
Size: Way big.

please let me know if you have anything, i tried to search everywhere....

The 5000 is pretty uncommon compared to the base model 4000 and especially in way big. Persevere with the bottom bracket while youre looking for a replacement. Try leaving the bb soaking in penatrating oil for as long as possible and use a quality tool to extract it.
When I changed the bb on my 4000 I had the same problem. It was a bitch of a job to get out and did damage the thread a little. In hind sight I should had used a lot more penatrating oil before I moved in with the long lever bar. Leave youres for a few days or so and it should move eventually.

Thanks for you quick response.

I soaked it in penetrating oil for over a week. the shimano BB tool was screwed on the axle with a crankbolt so it could not move.
Since the bikeshop who build the bike did not use any anti-seasing or grease at all, the bottom bracked cups are just sealed to the frame

Saturday we heatened the frame (destroyed the paint) to make a last resort to remove it. no effect at all.
i managed to get the bearing on the left side out to remove any tention from the cups. pain in the ass job....
ammonia and penetration oil did not do the trick

I just ordered a Dremel 4200, i will try to get the BB out piece by piece. This will cost some time and efford, next to that... a paintjob...

it woud be easier for me to arrange a new XL frame. i will try to find one for a week or two before i start working on the BB...

It might end with putting in BB30 press-fit bearings in. i was going to use a 2014 XT crank anyway (hollowtech)...

this was really not where i was hoping for when i bought the bike

Please tell me you're unscrewing the drive side in the correct direction? i.e. Clockwise to unscrew...........

I have a Large 857 front triangle only, available from the UK if that's any good to you?

Hi Col,

I know that you always have to turn the way that your spinning aswell, counts for both sides (some exeptions offcourse)
the ring that holds the bracket fastly broke off in one piece on both sides.

Thanks for the offer on the frame, i really need a XL (way big) sized frame since i am 204cm long

i will keep looking and in the mean while i will dremel that current one out..... its going to be a hell of a job

Wow that sounds bad! You seem to be trying every method available. The bb in my frame was dry and cracked but it did come out. Keep trying but I think you might be right and you will need a different frame.

you can do it with a dremel, I've been there also....take it slow, you can aslo fix any buggered up threads by hand.
I also had one stick in a 4500.....too much leverage and it broke the seal on the BB insert (to the carbon)....too much winter riding with salt seized it up reeeal good.

Howdy...well I have decided to sell my Large 5500 frame. The frame will have the hanger, a Hammerhead, Chris King headset, XT octalink BB and XT HollowTech cranks and an XT front derailleur and NR-2 shock. The NR-2 has a mountain-speed spring and is on the beefier side. The shock is okay, but if you plan to use it, you may one to get it serviced.

The seat-post is not included.

Also, I am including a Hopey Damper as one can see from the which has the ring mount. Hopey works fine.

I haven't a clue what to ask but have a ballpark figure, just make a reasonable offer.

We can discuss shipping and insurance.

Hi Guys

I just picked up this Animal. I only got it for the XTR bits so was wondering if anyone has a use for the frame and forks. Looks like it has been sitting in a shed for a long time. The guy apparently built it up then went OS for 10 years. I am guessing it's a large.

Let me know I am in Melbourne Australia. Happy to box it up and post. For anyone on here just pay the postage and it's yours.
