XP8 Rear shock adapter

This is the adapter that fits into the swingarm stay and holds the lower part of the shock firmly to the siwngarm.
Notice the locating cone.

The adapter is made for Fox Float shock and shock eyelets are turned 90 degrees to each other so that there is no movement
at the lower eyelet (original shock had fixed rod at lower end).  There are 3 bushes - two for the upper eyelet to fit the
shock to the frame and one bush the lower eyelet to act as a spacer.



This is it fitted.  And yes, it is quite clunky, very over-engineered as it would not be nice to have it fail in use.


View from other side showing access to the air valve (shock only fits one way round) and the rebound adjustment
knob is within the frame gusset but it can be turned with one finger - just!!


Now the fun of riding it begins!!!  ;D

What is the shock length?

Does it have enough stroke?
I have a 190mm swinger, but I believe it will be too long. It will increase the lenght by 20mm, and that will throw me even more to the front of the bike.

I'm almost quiting on the adapter...
Good news is that I will try to make a new strut on a local bicycle builder with some plates for the shock (as I believe Shovelon did), since I can't find anyone with a spare strut for me to modify.

Your 190 swinger is perfect. It has more stroke than the noleen also. Just allow a little more sag.

The cutout in the adapter can be closer to the tapered section to reduce the i2i also. I put the end of my 190 mm swinger right into the tapered hole of the strut to match the i2i exactly, and have also mounted a 200mm swinger/2.25" travel and it does not compromise the ride.

Good question and one I will find out answer to.  I ditched the elastometers from my Girvin shock and fitted SpeedPro spring - I reckon that will get coil bound before the Fox shock bottoms out but we'll see soon enough.

A similar type of adapter could be made to accept longer 190 mm shock by reducing the metal betwen the shock and stay but I am guessing the rear would be lifted by 10 mm or so; not a huge amount; again I will measure this.

Update;

The original Girvin shock would have 38 mm full travel (it will be coilbound by that stage too).

The Fox shock full travel is 35 mm so I have lost 3 mm.

Been out on a ride and the rear is now much smoother (plus can be adjusted) and the annoying clunk when the Girvn shock fully extends is gone.

re: 190 mm shock - as ^^^ says, with a bit of sag, this would work just as well, the adapter mounting point can be lowered by 7 mm (or thereabouts).
