Rear pivot bushing instalation
« on: May 12, 2018, 03:34:52 pm »
Hello group, I'm finally getting around to replacing the rear pivot bushings on my 855. Dose any have any tips on how to keep the larger o-rings in place when sliding the swingarm into place? I'm having a problem with the o-ring not staying in the groove and stretching out where it's not between the frame and bushing any longer. I've had it on and off now several times and no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.       Thanks,  Tracy

Don't know if you suceeded but in the past I have used a really thin putty knife blade between the frame and rubber x-ring with grease. Slid the swingarm right on then slide the blade out.

I like the putty knife trick. I work in a sheet metal shop. With that said the ideas are poppin.

also, you can (carefully) use a "spreader" bolt,
i.e. a bolt or threaded bar just a bit under length of the width of the swing arm and then use a nut on the end of it to increase the length and thus spread the swing arm.
BUT, be very careful! only spread it a fraction, enough to get over the O or X seals!
