Title: Well, its been a decade
Post by: Carbon_Kiwi on April 19, 2020, 01:43:59 pm
So I'm wondering if anyone is still on here from that long ago. I still have my OzM, still love it, still ride it, in fact I'm about to embark on a search for a rear shock upgrade as I'd imagine technology has moved on somewhat - of course whether or not something new & shinny will fit my Oz is another story.
Hope everyone is well, & if there is anyone still here that remembers me - say hi.
Cheers,
Jason

I had to look, 2007 for me. Still have several in the basement. Just now starting to thin out the parts collection to others in need. Spring is here for good so time to dust off the OzM and taste some dirt.

hey Kiwi, Christchurch is where I'm at - how about you?
So I'm embarking on my search for a new rear shock, but I am stumped, there are so many to choose from. I think I'll stick with a Fox, as I have Talas RLC's up front. I also just measured the eye to eye on my rear, it seems to be 215 mm, I thought they were 200 mm, or does the length not matter too much?

..............and I'm pretty sure I was also registered on a predecessor site...........

According to my records, the Noleen rear shock on a 4000 or 5500 or Oz is 209mm e2e.

more detail:
Bike  Rear Shock Length     Min/Max                                                                       & Ratio:
Oz        209mm         157mm – 235mm (hit points) safe is160 – 230mm    1:2.63
4000    209mm         130mm – 240mm (hit points) safe is 135 – 235mm

I haven't checked in for some time.  Recently had my Evil Following in the shop to get some custom work done by Avalanche.  Guy took four weeks to get it done, so I rode my 957 during that time.  At first, it was kind of sketchy.  I really miss having a dropper post.  But after about the third ride, I was having fun again.  I had to cut down my seat post so I could lower the seat on downhills.

The 957 is still a cool bike and very capable XC bike.  If I spent more time and money on tuning the suspension (swapping the springs), it would be even better.

But...there's no denying that 29'er's are way more efficient and can just monster truck stuff.  Going to ride today and let someone try out my 957.
