Title: elastomer upgrade/replace

i have a 96 proflex beast world cup design bike.   i  :ohave been out of mountain biking for almost 6 years and am now getting back into it.  now my elastomers are shot.  is there any hope for replacement or preferably any upgrades available.  sorry if this is old news i have just been out of it for a while.  thanks for any help.

Welcome to the club. I've recently gotten back into it after a long layoff and have just finished a rear suspension upgrade on my 856 (same vintage as your bike).

I have no idea if elastomers are still available or not, but I wouldn't suggest bothering with them anyway, since they basically suck. One reasonably inexpensive option is a Mountain Speed Spring which replaces the elastomers on the stock ODS. I have such a setup, rode it for a while and it was definitely an improvement. Better yet, Risse Racing (www.risseracing.com) makes replacement shocks for Proflex bikes, including your Beast, but they're a lot more than just a spring. Then again, they perform a lot better, too.

I just installed a Risse Genesis on my 856, replacing a dead Stratashock that was more problems than it was worth. I'm impressed with the construction quality of the Risse shock and the damping adjustment works great. It's largely user servicable, which I really like. I don't have much mileage on it yet, but so far, so good.

thanks for the info,  i have been getting nowhere fast.  after being out of it for so long and just now getting back into it, getting put out of it again sucks  [smiley=upset.gif]. thank again.  i didn't have a screen name when message was posted.  now i do.

you can get elastomers from k2. they can be ordered thru any bike shop. they come in only one density.
most are going to a spring or a real shock.
depends on how much you want to spend.
ebay sometimes has elastomers, springs and shocks.
