Well, spring cleaning time has come. Just finished going over my Airborne and giving it the cleaning it deserves, but now it is time to do the same for the old K2 3000. I had the front shock rebuilt by the noleenshockservice.com folks last year, and they were just fine to work with (they accidentally sent it back with a wrong-sized fitting, but corrected it immediately once I shipped it back and were very easy to chat with on the phone). But now my rear shock is basically dead.
I'm probably going to take it to a local motorcycle shop and see what they can do. But I figure an upgrade might be in order, especially after all I've heard about the Risse/Stratos shocks vs. the old NR-2. Plus, a weight reduction on the back would be a nice bonus, or so I hear.
So, after all that introduction, anyone out there have a Risse Genesis, Astro-5 or Stratos Helix that they would be willing to part with and that would fit on this frame? I'm not sure I want to put down 200-300 bucks for a new shock for this bike: I don't know how many more seasons it has left in it. I ride strictly XC, so I don't care too much about travel. Or does anyone else with a similar experience think it is worth paying a couple bills? Is the difference that drastic?
Thanks in advance for all your help!

I have a Risse Astro-5 for sale. Asking $150 for it. It's a great shock, but I'm not riding my '99 K2 4000 anymore so I'm selling the shock. This would be a very sweet upgrade for you.
Let me know,

the 98 3000 is a "wprld cup" frame and uses a different shock than your 99 4000
