Ok Guys here is the update on my attempt to make an adapter so I can use my Risse Genesis (designed to fit a Santa Cruz Tazmon ) on my 855!.
1. First I had to reduce the some Al bar from 50mm to 35 to suit the OD of shock body. 2. Mill out a rectangular recess(http://idriders.com/proflex/galleries/deano/end.jpg)
in one the end. 3.The adapter still needs some work so that it sits flush on the body of the shock. (http://idriders.com/proflex/galleries/deano/together.jpg)3. Reduce the diameter of the other to 22mm to fit under the seat and tap and tap a M6 hole to bolt adapter to shock..These pics are in my gallery.
More updates later.!

Looks good! 8) I think you could mill out the smaller diameter portion (that bolts to the frame) so it would be lighter... you would have a tube instead of a solid piece.
Cheers,

Ahhh I see. Wasn't sure what you mean't in yer email. Pic says it all.
Let me know how it all comes together.

Today i reduced the end the bolts up under the seat to 22mm and tapped 2 M6X1 holes to bolt the shock to the adapter. I used on grub screws so they would be flush with the outside of the shock body. Next i need to tap a thread to bolt the adapter the plates under the seat! I am thinking of drilling out the seat end of the adapter to reduce weight!

Next the strut end...........

I want one for my tired old 855. [smiley=nod.gif]

presumably the i2i will be close to 210mm?.Quite how one defines the strut "eye" on a wc frame i dont know!!!! perf aps eye 2 end would be better!

I completed a trial assembly tonight only to find the whole assembly feels too long. I measured the length of the set up from strut bolt (swing arm end) to the bolt under the seat and it measures 478mm!. I can take 20mm of the seat end of the adapter by milling some of the diameter of the adapter so it can be bolter closer to the shock. Does anyone know what effect the additional length will have on the geometry of the bike and how it will ride?. My old elastomer set up (using an 755 strut) measures 470mm.
I have yet to ride the finished product. I will reassemble by the week end and post the results! The rest of the construction photos are in my gallery :http://idriders.com/cgi-bin/album_k2.pl?album=deano

Looks great! Are you saying that the difference in length is only 8mm? If so, it will hardly affect your geometry. Not so as you would notice at any rate!
Go ride that thing! Congrats on an aesthetically pleasing job! Let us know how it rides...

you need a little bit of clearance at the upper mount cos the shock rotates slightly as the swingarm comes up.If you releive the sides of the upper mount that will let the top swing and it looksa s though you have a few mm at the base too.Awesome job...what is the stroke and i2i of the shock to srart with?.I am with matno.....478 vs 470 you will lose that in the sag easy....you will have twice as much travel(or it will feel like it) compared to the MCU set up

My stock setup is 457mm

Kiwi, my thoughts exactly! After releiving the sides of the upper mount i was able to reduce its length by 20mm. (http://idriders.com/proflex/galleries/deano/Mvc010s.jpg)
The stroke is 46mm and i2i of the shock is 170mm. Overall my adapters adds 44 mm to the overall setup. Is this figure significant? I notice the chain now drags over the bottom of the front derailer while it didnt before. Any thoughts? The "original" strut was a 755 and was longer than the 855 i have on now.
A now for another problem. How "stiff" are genesis shocks ment to be? My front Genesis rebound is much quicker than rear shock. Why? also i can see air escaping here in the picture as indicated. I assume this should not happen. Does it need a rebuild/seal kit?

i dont think there shpuld be any leaks and i guess the idea of the adapters is to make your 170 mm shock 210 mm eye to strut......the idea is to make the overall length as close as possible to what it should be (you seem to vary somewhat from trevors o/a length)your genisis setup + strut should be within 10 mm or so of elastomer + strut. You may find that whilst the chain may drag unloaded it wont as soon as you get on.Your shock is probably valved incorrectly for the proflex...i would say that the santa cruz got twice as much travel out of the shock than your proflex so of course it will be too stiffin the damping.look on the risse wbsite ,they are easy to rebuild, and you may be able to correct the damping by running really light oil or perhaps a discussion with kevin risse is due....

Odd place for an air leak, usually its the seal area, could check that the shrader valve isn't leaking where it threads into the body and then escaping to atmosphere at the point idicated ???
Simon.
Ps impressive conversion [smiley=nod.gif]

Thanks simon. It could be that the shrader valve needs tightening. The whole i made is not large enough to accommodate a socket so I resorted to hand tightening. I can actually "see" small bubbles leaking where i indicated. I hope to take a look inside and hopefully discover that the valved end of the shock can be further dismantled to removed the eyelet from the pisten altogether there by enabling me to replave the seal that is allowing air to ecape and re make another end that will further reduce the overall length of the shock set up by another 20mm. I am going for a ride up the blue mountains outside Sydney this wekend should be great. Will keep you posted!
