bad for 5500c owners wanting out..good for proflex lovers wanting in......

i think it's good all the way around. riding a bike, any bike is an investment in one's sanity
still wanna know how many Pro~Flex/k2 carbon frames were made and if there were only two runs.
reality is the bikes are still way 8), we :-* 'em but they are not state of the art bikes anymore...but aging gracefully, still sexy and :P and unique enough to always turn heads to those in the know...like us [smiley=laughing.gif]

carbon i aam a real xc kinda guy i often ride on the road to a nice technical (as in xc)ride about 20 ks away...I would like something more plush than the 756,but would i find the 5500c too soggy and wot about weight I would most likely swap as many parts as possible

Don't worry about the weight my 4500 frame set is lighter than my 856 8),I'm down to 25lbs now even with hyd disc's & the al s/arm,so I could probably knock off another 1/2lb-1lb ,you won't find things soggy once you've set the suspension, there a great xc ride,Simon [smiley=nod.gif]

Had my Oz on a calibrated l.b.s. scale-22.30 w/o my pedals, fender, SKS airgun, or mud. For some reason manufacturers claimed weights do not include pedals. Took my time piecing the odd used bits from ebay and MTBR. All were purchased with an eye towards weight/cost to get this light. I have to also thank the "Lose some weight" board at MTBR for many of the suggested parts. An Astro with its lockout would make your 20 km to the trailhead much easier.
-
you can't beat the WC frame for XC riding...IMHO
:D [smiley=beer.gif]
lockout is a good idea
-
That should be "Save some weight" at MTBR.com My wife's a dietitian so "lose some weight" came to mind!
-
scott can you list your main component spec ie wheels crank cluster brakes bb ???
-
hey Kiwi/Scott - that sounds awfully light. my oZ weighs in at just under 25lbs - and all my gear is light [ie: lots of carbon and ti] bar the fork which is kinda heavy.
check out my gallery for full specs...
oh - and my old bike was a 957 - the oZ is every bit as good for xc as that - and it was nice

Have to agree, mine's in at 25lbs all in with SL sid fork, easton carbon SL bars, and post, light weight set of wheels, and a host of L/W components including many Ti bolts, cannot see where else I can lose much weight, unless I went back to V's may then lose 1/4 to 1/2 Lbs.Simon

Trying the link again-for some reason a portion wasn't recognized as an address. Also an NR2 with a 350 lb. spring out back.
-
Bullocks! You have to cut and paste the entire addy to bring it up. It's a great steering fork, similar to a Crosslink but very light and free of any J path type movement making it feel like a tele. The links/pivots are arranged so the wheel follows a different path throughout its travel.

Simon,
How has the SID been with the B4? Does it stay aligned under heavy braking? I read how the disc setup can bring much more force into our forks so was wondering what an actual riders findings might be. That's a nice spec too, I agree mine sounds a wee bit hopeful but the 30-80 grams per part across an entire grouppo adds up, some examples might be the FRM stem which is around 118 grams, Action Tec b.b.at 142, or SRAM Plasmas at 175-180. I weigh 135 so don't worry about what might be too light. Probably should! I'm going to check Nigels posts but offhand would you know if his rear SID has 50mm stroke and doesn't cause the swingarm to contact the frame at full bottom? My checking here with a tape measure shows a shock will need 8.25 e2e to just clear at full bottom. THANKS
-
Scott, can't help on the rear sid stroke front, though I know it doesn't contact the frame at full compression,to make it fit he did have to do some machining on the evo frame, nice job though,my sid's have been great (I'm 168Lbs) brakings been fine very little flutter, they do the job there designed for, light xc fork, expect any more you've got the wrong fork, though I could do with 100mm travel, worry about that another day, with your weight and bike spec can't see you've anything to concern you, [smiley=nod.gif]Simon.
