Title: Max stroke for Oz with 8" shock?
Post by: Scott on January 11, 2004, 09:22:17 am
Has anyone checked their Oz/Carbon on this?  Standard NR2 is 1.5 or so.

Thanks,
Scott

i wouldn't go more than 2.25 but 2.5 might be possible."

that would give you about 6.75" of travel - that's what i've been running on a couple of shocks but the setting is at 8.5" e2e.

with a half inch less length - that would be about 1.35" lower in the back end and .675" at the bottom bracket.

bottom bracket height for a large oz is listed at 300 mm (11.84" or so) with a standard 209 mm (8.25") noleen - with an 8" shock you drop that .337" to 11.5" or so.

with 6.75" of full rear travel should drop the BB 3.375" to 8.125".  with 180 mm (7.1") cranks inset about an inch from the BB box - you may be hitting bottom with an extended crank.

some body probably should check my numbers

with an 8.5" shock one could go 2.5" stroke but i should imagine an 8" would be max 2.25" -

Some people on this forum mentioned they did not like the evo with the 8.5" shock.  Can't remember their reason, maybe due to the geometry.  It would be tempting to try 8.5 shock with a 2.5" stroke, especially the new stable platform shocks.

i like both of mine -

like a little softness so i run some sag to make up for the added dif.

never bottomed either out -
at least to the point that as i recall kiwi described as
"turning the nitrogen inside to a liquid"

guess i'm just an xc kinda guy
