hi i have a 657 expert series with magura hs33 brakes on, the levers are in poor condition . but i have a new pair of shimano lx dual control hydraulic levers , does any one know if you can fit the shimano levers to hs33 calipers thanks dave.
-
I don't know if you can do that, but I always found Magura Tech support to be very good in the past (>10 years ago!) so maybe give them a call?
All I do know is that both Magura and Shimano use mineral oil as brake fluid.

ok col thanks for your quick response i will see if i can contact magura and see what they say.

As I recall, Magura brakes use mineral oil and Shimano brakes use DOT3 brake fluid. The seals are probably not chemically compatible between the two, though there is a slim possibility they used something like Viton which is immune to almost any solvent.

No, Fyrestormer, I'm VERY confident that Shimano use Mineral Oil. (albeit their own propriety one).
However I also understand/believe the hype that Magura and Shimano Mineral Oils are NOT compatible and should not be mixed, so Dave may have a compatibility issue as Magura Oil might eat the Shimano seals and vice versa.

Sorry, I was thinking of Hope brakes. My bad.

I've used magura calipers with Kooka Racha hydro levers 5 years with no problem.

Of course, if the seals explode in use on a massive descent, we may not hear from you again..................<GRIN>.......only kidding, Good Luck!
