Title: Front fork replacement options for 554?
Post by: Blackjoy on June 25, 2015, 01:12:27 pm
Does anyone know or can recommend a suitable replacement for the Fastrax Fork (2.1" of travel) on a 554?  The specs on the fork were as follows:

I think it has a 1 1/8" threadless headset but someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

If you can get one, a Look Fournales is a very workable and "alternative", albeit expensive option, I have them on my XP-X (856) road warrior bike. The shock is pretty unique and probably unmaintainable at this late date but hey you get the option of disk brakes and 29er!

Or stay traditional and stick a Girvin Vector on it.
Otherwise if it's 1 1/8", the World's your Lobster..............

Colin,

thanks for the suggestion, but an unmaintainable fork is something I'll avoid.

It may be that eventually our Proflexes do become unmaintainable unless someone finds alternatives or machines parts for the bikes.

Your fork choices are pretty much endless as long as your head tube and steer tubes are a standard (ish) size.

I'm pretty sure the old fork was 1 1/8 threadless and had cantilever/linear pull brakes.  I don't know about the other tubes, not that savvy on the bike anatomy and there's like one pdf of the bike form a sales brochure so I am having trouble getting the specs.

I was told that I need to match the offset/trail.  I'm hoping forks from that era were pretty standard on offset.
