Some guy in my area is selling a proflex 757 for $75. IS this a good deal? he didn't really give me any details but he told me it has the carbon swing arm and has oiginal fork. Where can i find more info? how many years did this model come out?
also the rear shock is blown.....anyone know what frame this is? worldcup, evo?
leaving in hour and half...let me know asap
thanks guys!

$75 for just about any frame could be a good deal. In this case, however, you might have a hard time finding a decent price on a replacement shock. The 757 is a '97 model frame (I believe the last digit corresponds to the model year). I think the only shock available for those frames is made by Risse and Stratos.
Here's a link to the Risse shocks:

And a picture of an example:
Stratos only lists the 857, which I believe is the same frame.

its a 1997 model(hence the xx7 model number) and once looked like (http://idriders.com/proflex/files/757b.jpg).
It should have an aluminium swwingarm so it might be a 857.look out for cracks in the frame if it looks like it has been well (ab)used.
-
thanks for the info guys.....the guy explicitly pointed out the carbon swing arm. "it is real neat" exact words from guy over the phone. I'll post what it is late tonight.
-
I picked up the frame last night. Bunch of scratches on it.
I am not positive if it is a 757. It did have the carbon swingarm, and a girvin fork.
anyone know how i can check what frame this is?
i was also wondering, is this a higher model frame than my proflex 3000?
because if it is i plan to swap the parts from my 3000. Since the frame is a large which suits my height better than my way big 3000.
-
also frame is red
-
post a pic maybe??
my 857 is red w/ a carbon arm (1997) for $75 i'd almost buy it sight unseen, even if the frame is cracked i'd have another swingarm and able to part out a few exclusive parts....

Hey carbon,
i looked at the pic of your 857 and i am almost certain taht my frame is a 857.
carbon does the 857 come with the rear nr-2 shock?
because mine is missing the shock assembly.
Did the 857 line come out before the 3000?
where can i find a spec sheet on this bike?
i'll try to get a pic up later this week

The bike was a 1997 model year
The 3000 came out in 1998(?)
The infamous nr-2 was standard issue for the bike, Risse makes a great replacement for it. You do have the rear strut???(I hope)
What specs do you need? I have most all of that stuff around here....i need to put it all. Let me know and I'll find it.
here's a start http://k2bikes.com/tech_library/pdfs2/98/98worldcupframeassembly.pdf
ps if you see any more at 75$...let me know [smiley=laughing.gif]

Hey carbon,
i'll get a pic up in a couple days when i get my camera back. The guy who i bought it from said the seal ripped right off because his seat post slipped into it when he took a drop.
so the entire cylinder of the shock is gone. The rebound (pole?) is still there. So i will need to purchase a new shock/strut assembly.
Risse makes a rear shock for this frame also?
which model should i be looking for if i decide to get one.
And carbon, i haven't decided yet whether or not to keep the frame. If i do decide to sell it i'll let you know. I'll sell it to you for what i paid.
thanks

the strut is part #19 on the .pdf file in my post
my first choice would be an Astro-5, depending on how much you want to spend. form what i hear a Genesis is a much improvement over the Nr-2 for the rear.
what size farme? there might be a sticker near the BB and the down tube.

HEre it is
is this a 857?
frame measures 19 in.
anyone have a rear shock for me?
if i can't find an affordable rear shock i will most likely pass the frame on to another proflexer

yup, it's an 857 with a busted rear shock and a scary looking stem on it [smiley=laughing.gif]
let me know if you do not want it, i'd be interested in taking a peek at it for the swing arm and xlink.

Hey carbon, or anyone else who may know
is there a site where i can find more info on fixed gear, SS setups?
i am trying to decide what to do with this frame.
but need to know what i will be getting into if i go SS
-
carbon can i see more pics of your SS setup?
what kind of chain tensioner is that?

I checked out SheldonBrown's website, and decided i will build a Budget SS bike with my frame.
The part that i know i will have to fork out some $$ for is the rear shock, because i currently do not have one.
I have a question....... Is the front shock (Girvin fork) interchangable with the rear shock? They are both NR-2 correct?
Also which shock takes more precedence.....front shock or rear shock? If you had a choice of upgrading your suspension....which would you reoplace with the higher quality model? The front or the rear?
and one more question...... places to order a replacement?
I am thinking either genesis, or another NR-2 if i can find one cheap.
thanks
-
no, they are not interchangable. they are different lengths and mounts. the front girvin has only 1 option, risse. the rear has at least 2, risse and stratos. some previous posters have made a fox fit, with some custom work.

what kind of chain tensioner is that?
check out my gallery here. there is a pic or three of the bike. the tensioner is a Surley Singulator... works fine since i replaced the jockey wheel with a new one. i managed to chew it up with the chain before i had the thing allinged right.
i am running a Singulator, a BMX 16 rear cog with spacers an 8 speed chain. Front is a Deore mtb crank with only the 32 (middle ring). Using the same tapered BB that came with the bike and flat pedals that would make good bear traps and have found my shin a few times.
For the rear i'd just try to find a servisable, used nr-2. Get it built as SS and try it out. If you love it (it is fun), then you can think about putting some nicer bits into her if your budget permits. i ride mine 'round the neighborhood with the family and take it out to do some dirt rollers once in a while and Yosemite Valley. i would blow my knees out (and my guts) trying to climb my ususal trails around here on the SS.
Man, i thought i was the only one in the whole frickin world with an 857 SS..oh well now there may be two in the Bay Area! :o [smiley=laughing.gif]

Don't worry carbon, you were the one who inspired me to buiild the SS. Hehe, there you get your props.
just curious......Is the bmx freewheel installed on a 8 or 9 speed hub? Are there hub specific spacers? or can i use some pipe cutouts from homedepot?
did you need spacers for your crankset?

my LBS actually built it up for me. it's an 8 speed hub, i suppose you could use PVC pipe cut for the width, as i have herad that done. the 16 tooth cog is just that... a cog. they built it up origonaly with a rear derailler with screw adjustments to hold it where it should be. i put the singulator on myslef later. no spacers for the crankset, just be sure you have a perfect chainline with whatever spacers you use. i'm goingto snap a pic of the hub and insert it here later for you. Okay two pics in my gallery of the hub third from the top in each column (if you view this like i do)

that SS is way cool. If i got that $75 deal i would definately be happy to spend some more$ and time to set it up, not as my #1 bike but as a fun thing. If that Girvan fork is operational it would be a travesty ditch it for a normal fork. Just find a cheap rear shock and have fun. If one can fit i'd try to go with an air shock, you might want to keep the wt down if you are ditching the gears. Remember there's no such thing as too many bikes!
-
Great pictures carbon.
Exactly what i was looking for.
I am weighing my options as to the rear shock.
numbnuts, i am definitly keeping the girvin the way it is....why spend more money where it is not needed. And you are right i don't want a regular looking fork...i love the parrallelogram design.
Anyone know where i can find a cheap rear shock?
My last option would be shelling out some money and getting the risse for my proflex 3000( my main bike) and taking the NR-2 from the 3000 and installing it on the SS.
But i probably won't do that until i know there is no cheap rear shock option for me out there. (couple weeks of searching)

why dont you hook up with this guy?
