I'll be honest and admit, this is just an excuse to get people to post some photos of your bikes and where you've been riding recently. The sun is out, the sky is blue and we a want Proflex in the view!
Post some photos people!
Local forestry trail to me on Saturday just before I start the ride back through the forest.

Someone must have been on a ride lately...anyone?
Chris

I went this past sunday to Woodward Park here in Fresno. Its the first offroad ride since I fixed my rear shock. I' m not sure the acreage but its pretty big and since I was there last they have spent some money on the BMX track and the Mountain Bike track and trails. I am going again this weekend I will try and click a few photos

Been out today with the blue bells pictures are a bit poor ( mobile phone) but will take the camera on the next mission.(http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k170/fridgehq/Photo-0004.jpg)(http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k170/fridgehq/Photo-0003.jpg)

Excellent. That bluebell wood looks beautiful and it would be really nice to see what Fresno looks like. Keep the photos coming.

Where's the Bluebell wood? I'm likely to be in Badby Wood and Everdon Stubbs in Northamptonshire in the next few days and the bluebells are early here!
(Then again everything in the natural world is about a month early in the UK this year, my bees will be swarming soon if I'm not careful!)

Hi k24000, just noticed your in Kent, do you ride at Bedgebury?
-
Hi All
Colin the Bluebell wood is in kent near Leeds castle its one of my short routes this year seems to be one of the best for the blue bells smell is great too. Tel not done Bedgebury yet but been around Bewl water a few times most of my riding is along the North downs way and Mereworth woods leading into Ightham this is the book I use some great rides in there. http://www.bikemaps.co.uk/se-england-mtb/north-south-downs-mountain-biking.htm (http://www.bikemaps.co.uk/se-england-mtb/north-south-downs-mountain-biking.htm) I take it you ride Bedgebury ? I must give that a go.

I went up the Long Mynd with the Retrobike crew a couple of weeks ago :)

Had a good ride today along my regular route. It rained heavily for the last hour but I kind of like it when it gets messy.
Before it rained on the way down

looks nice. Where's that?

Went for a road ride today with a little trail path on the way.
Still rides perfect, but my right thumb is still getting numb...
Only took a photo when I arrived at the garage, next to its newer company.

That's a cool looking Animal. Kind of an Animal se. Why your right thumb? ???

It's forestry a few miles out side of Cardiff. I use it as part of my regular loop.

Chris
I don't know about the thumb... But everytime I ride the Animal I get a numb right thumb. Something isn't right and I think I need to change some things: a bigger stem, change the angle of the handlebar and move the shifter away from the grip. That should do it.
As for the Animal, that frame is near to be taken apart... I'm painting a k2 proflex 1000 in a dark brownish grey, putting some 957 decals and clear coat everything (it just got sprayed with the first layer). I don't think its worth having two Proflex x57 frames at the moment so I will transfer the components from this to the new frame. I'm honestly reluctant on doing this, but I think I will end up with a spare frame and carbon crosslink fork and eventually will use and modify the rear strut to get a modern shock in.
I was building one for road use only, but then the Yeti unexpectedly came in and changed my plans.
-
I see your point. I've got one or two of each but they are all spec'ed different.
Why don't you start a build thread for your 957. I'd really like to see the progress with the frame .
Chris

Here's a picture of my 757 out in the trail in my town. This is property converted from the old RCA tower fields used for long range radio transmissions to Europe after WW1. My bike is leaning up against one of the exposed footing from the towers.
This bike is mostly stock, after I bought life conspired to turn me away from the cycling world for a while. It's unfortunate because the bike, when you consider usage, is practically new. I had probably only used the bike for 100 miles or so. It is now suffering from a lot of age related issues though. You might note the new saddle, new pedals, but what you can't see well is the sheen of shock oil that was leaking out on the rear shock during this ride.
This is actually my ride from last week. Today, I took out the older 252 today for a little road exercise. The wind was so strong I refused to stop in fear that I wouldn't have the will to get back on the bike again. Next time I have 252 I'll make sure I get nice shot.

Sounds like that rear shock needs a rebuild. Once the seals go there's nothing else you can do with it. Sweet looking ride though.

rebuild kits on ebay for 25 US and then off to the local mc shop for a nitrogen charge

Took my new toy out for a shakedown and loved every minute. Forks set to 130mm here just to try it out. Brakes are awesome!

Well Done Chris! The whole bike looks awesome!

On Sunday I took the older 252 out for a little ride. I snapped this shot just outside of Nikola Tesla's lab. The poorly lit statue you can see is the new statue of Tesla. Further off in the back, behind the trees is the unrestored building that Tesla worked in.
Anyway. I purchased this bike new as a compromise. I preferred riding on the road, everyone I rode with were into mountain bikes. I consider this bike the gateway drug into the Profile world, it was really a great, do everything hybrid. I still ride this often enough as it still a fun little knock-about.

nice....... well, I took this bad girl out for a couple mile spin down the road today now that it's finished.... I didn't want to over-do it as I'm still recovering from breaking my right ankle in 3 places on 2/25....at least it's strong enough for some easy riding currently :)

That looks awesome! It's been a long time since carbon bikes have been en vogue but it seems they are all the fashion at the moment. I think every one should have at least one ;)
Chris
-
Don t start me off I would love to have one and esp after seeing these two cracking examples would love to see one with my 4000 and Beast. Love seeing the old proflex as well in my opinion Proflex do not get enough credit for starting full suspension bikes( as long as my facts are correct ?)
I wish Proflex would start making bikes again
-
Hey, facts right or wrong I like your enthusiasm! Go on buy one, you know you want to... ;) ;D

Well, I moved back to Utah last year (from New York), and I've been too busy to ride much, but my brother and I did get out on Memorial Day for a nice morning ride behind Mount Timpanogos. Did 2700 feet of vertical climbing and a whole lot more downhill than that, all on beautiful singletrack trails. Doesn't get any better than this! Both on 5000s. (He rides my spare when he's in town). Both bikes still going strong.

Have not had a chance to ride much lately, but went on vacation to the Kern River in California, and brought the old bike. Found a trail and rode some of it.

Did 3 days straight of riding as the temps were somewhere about 105 degrees F. in the afternoon. On the third day I rode out of cell phone range and thought to head back. Good thing too as on the last hill back to camp I broke the Flextem on the right side. Not bad for 25 years old. Got some fixin to do. :o

Shocking! send it back to Girvin for a warranty replacement, you just can't trust stuff to last like it did in the good old days....................<GRIN>
But I replaced the faulty "s" that was on it, for you for free!

The sun was shining and my daughter was bored so we went for a ride around the village. She's got a Ridgeback but it only has 12" wheels so she struggles to keep up. To be fair she is only 3 years old! So she rides shotgun on the 957 family bike..!

I had a day off today so I went for a long ride. Started off as my usual loop but the sun was out and I was enjoying the OZx. In all I was out for 4 hours and had to come back as I ran out of water!

This is a lovely fast and swoopy section at the top of one mountain before you drop down to join the next.

And this is what greets you when you get into the forestry on the other side. Lots of roots and mud, loads of fun!

"Family Bike"? Are you suggesting you get the whole family on it? How may is that... four or five people plus the dog?? 8) ;D

I took the 857 on the road with me a month ago for a short business trip, because it's easier to break down and hide in my trunk than my newer Giant... and I wanted to give it some exercise.
I had an evening to kill in Harrison Hot Springs so asked the front desk where I might head for an hour or two. The desk clerk gave me a photocopy of a crude single line map of the area with a couple of trails noted. I decided on a loop that looked like it might be a little challenging (it's mountainous there!) and set off. Everything else was really aimed at elderly tourists wanting a short stroll...
I found the single track trail, and made a start up the first hill... then a nice downhill run which I went down way too fast, a sweeping turn and - uh-oh - the trail was almost obliterated by a grove of giant leafed plants. Frick! Devil's Club!
I went through most of it before I could stop. Ouch. Turned around, gingerly retreated and worked my way out to the road. And did a dozen km or so on the pavement instead.
For those who aren't familiar with Devil's Club, the underside of the leaves and the stems grow nasty spikes. I came out looking like I'd been stuffed in a sack with an angry tom cat... ::)
No pictures of me or the bike, but one from along the way...

Thanks! Cell phone, Snapseed and upload to Instagram... all while trying to catch my breath from going too hard on the pavement. The best camera is the one you have with you... ;D

UK is getting a nice bit of sunshine at the moment so I took this photo on my ride tonight. The city below is Cardiff, my home. The water is the Bistol Chanel with Weston Super Mare on the other side. My house is the one on the left near the water...

It certainly is!
The house with the Blue door or the one with the Red door?
Just got back from a spin through the Northamptonshire countryside on my XP-X in high speed tourer mode, 32 miles at 15.5 MPH Average.
Col.
-
Next one along with the natural wood door :D. 15.5 mph is good going. My ride was 18 miles with a 50/50 split of road and off road with an average of 8mph. The 50% off road is mostly up hill! That's my excuse..

You know, I don't think this sort of thing was around when I was a little kid... but if you try to put yourself back to that age, going for a ride like this must be an absolute blast! Better than an amusement park ride! No control, front seat view... what could be better?
-
Cool shades!

I'm a lucky dad as she loves going on the bike. Only problem now is it's hard getting out for a serious ride because my daughter want to come every time!

I rode some trails I haven't been on for quite a few years this weekend and found these mine entrances. It's a old lime mine that goes down 20 meters into a cavern below. I used ride this area all the time and must have ridden around them so many times but never noticed them.

OMG! I though the Oz was muddy in the first pic, never mind the 2nd one! it looks like you went DOWN the Mine on it! <GRIN>
-
Lol and I was just as covered! Hence my post about winter tyres as things were getting a bit sketchy!!
Chris
-
Nasty... did you have to rebuild the Fox shock after that? ;D
-
:D thankfully not. I'm actually very impressed with these Fox shocks. They really do make a difference to the way the bike rides. The pro pedal eliminates any pedal bob on road and up hill. Then a flick of the lever and full active comes in for down hill and rough stuff. Very plush. The big plus for me is that where as Noleen shocks are so difficult to service in UK, I have a main Fox dealer 4 miles from my house. I can strip and rebuild the shock and forks my self. No Nitrogen needed!
Chris
-
Looks like the one on my Giant... although the mud is a bit thick to know for sure! The colour of the lever is the giveaway. Mine has three positions for climb, trail, downhill and I agree, it's a beauty!
-
I went out on my first proper ride yesterday since the birth of my second daughter 10 months ago. Spare time has been minimal. I enjoyed it so much but was worn out after! Surprisingly I didn't hurt too much the day after. I took the Oz as it's still my new toy and rides so nice. :)
Anyone else been out lately?
Chris
-
That looks like a nice forest to ride in, Spokes. Kinda wish I were there.
-
I guess I'm lucky in that I live on the outskirts of the city so it's about a 30 minute ride and I'm in proper forestry. Once there you can ride for miles without crossing any major roads. If you drive you can get to a number of bike centres with graded routes for different skill levels. I tend to just ride into the forestry and explore. I just wish we had the warm weather you get in USA.

I'll take cool and humid vs. hot and humid any day. Unfortunately where I live the summer days are often 30°C or higher with 70% humidity or higher. It's not uncommon to start sweating within seconds of stepping outside.
I'll admit I'm somewhat less likely to hang myself (exaggeration, I promise) since I don't have to deal with super-long nights in the winter like you do, though. But things have improved on that front since I built some RC trucks designed specifically for running in sub-freezing weather. It gives me an excuse to go outside for reasons other than defrosting the cars and getting the mail, without making me endure the wind chill of biking.
Having anything resembling a functioning social safety net would also ease my worries. There were weeks at a time over the past 3 years when I would get goosebumps and my pupils would go wide just at the thought of having to go into the office the next day -- not because my job is bad, but because my brain was malfunctioning and I couldn't handle even mild stress. What would I do if my mental health takes a nosedive again, and I have to take a few months off work? I buy long-term-disability insurance from my company, but even if I got an official diagnosis that I couldn't work for whatever reason *and* the insurance company accepted it, it wouldn't pay a cent until 6 months later. Where I live, I'd need $15,000 dollars in savings just to pay rent, utility, and grocery bills for that length of time -- and I'd feel terrible about bleeding money every day of it, which wouldn't help.
I guess what I'm saying is, the cool and cloudy weather you have to deal with in the UK has several silver linings.
