Many thanks to all that helped with the build of this bike , ;D ;D ;D ROY

oooooooh! Looks well good! Hows it ride?
Andy
-
Nothing real flashy, just a good selection of nice parts well put togeather. Well done.
Hope it rides as nice as it looks.
-
The bike started off as a pair of Girvins forks to be put on a Cannondale killer vee ,but no ,bit by bit this happend ,it was never ment to a head turner just a retro with some of my idear of nice bits . As to the ride ,it is quick i think for an old full suspention bike (may be thanks to the wheel set ) not as twichy as the Cannondale vee and very good on a climb , if i could sort out the shocks on the rebound it will be great ,time will tell .

Have a look at these:

Thanks Col , yes have found these manuals before to rebuild both shocks but only used ATF fluid ,will strip down both shocks the weekend and rebuild with ( to start with ) 10wt fully sythetic fork oil and try it again on sunday ,let you know how it goes ,have also a Noleen nr4 rear shock ,i have seen some where some one has rebuilt this with AIR in the piggy back cartridge any ideas ,again thanks for info ,Roy
-
Yes the air conversion to the NR4 was someone on Retrobike I think, so do a search on there. But basically he stripped the resivour down and cleaned it and fitted a schrader valve to it. It seemed to work fine if I remember correctly.

Yes that seems to ring a few bells ,and also about 120-140 psi .I just need to understand how to
strip the shock down and rebuild it ,
-
My god man, it's a seatpost, not a flagpole. (though if you like sitting on flagpoles, I won't judge. ;))
-
What ??????????????????????? why you looking at my flag post ,i mean seat post like that for a
-
Ha ha nice to see someone else with legs rides a Proflex and not stumps! ;) Keep that seat post high.

This might be of use you, as it says its the same process for a NR4.

If the frame was the right size i would not have to do it :-[ any one got a is it a big frame (20") dont tell the wife :o
i am asking out one
-
Thanks for the link Chris ,just rebuilt both shocks tonight with 10wt oil, but think i will move on to 20wt ,started striping down the NR4 shock as well ,i will see how that goes !
-
On a '56 frame the top tube height (stand over height) is the same on a medium/large and way big so they're meant to be like that. Anyone with long legs will have the seat set high.
Seat heights are not one size fits all.
Chris

I know, I know, but on my 756 I had to cut the seatpost to get it low enough.
-
OK ,long seat post it is ,BUT ,i have an animal ,the frame i mean,(do all the animal frames suffer from cracked head tubes ?) it seems bigger ,the only problem is the length of the steera tube on the fork (220mm long ) can you get longer ones ? ps i am starting to like the way it rides ,
Sorry more FLAG POSTS

From your previous photo I'm sure I can see that your Animal frame is a '57 frame and the Way big size in these frames are taller than the '56 way big's. '57 way bigs have a longer head tube as well as the extended seat post tube.
The only difference in the frame sizes in the '56 range were in the top tube length. Small frame excepted as they are completely different. So if you want a bigger frame the 857/Animal frame is the biggest you can get.

5'6" is ok, a little short but ok. Don't feel bad. ;)

ok i need help :-\ daddy long legs (thats me) has taken the new XP on its fouth ride ,,two off road and two to work (total of about 45 miles) it feels good apart from the rebound on both front /rear shocks ,sounds like ive got a wood pecker on my flag post ,i am going to try 20wt fork oil or a NR4 shock on the rear ? any body got one ? :P :P
-
I ran a NR4 on my 4000 for years and it was a excellent shock. Set up correctly it worked great.
-
i was hoping you would say that about the NR4 ,i am still running the ODS shock .
-
The ODS shock was all that was available in there day but it is old and basic technology which has long been superseded. The noleen NR range replaced it first and now some people replace those with air shocks from various makes with the addition of home made adapters. Go for the NR4 first, you don't regret it.
Chris
-
Any body got a NR4 shock for sale ?
-
No not me. I kind of thought you had a NR4 lined up but obviously not. You can buy them new from Noleen J6, but they first came out with the 957 and Animal. But make inquiries you never know someone may have one laying around?
Chris
-
thanks for that Spokes ,yes that NR4 i had lined up didn't happen ,but it seems the 15wt fork oil might work ,hope to take it out on my normal 15 mile loop off road tomorrow night ;D here's hoping ;)
-
I use an NR-4 on my 756. It is an excellent shock, especially if you can score a titanium spring for it. I bought mine from Noleen J6. No regrets. I instantly gained about 1mph on average because the adjustable compression-damping significantly reduced pedal-bob. (The NR-2 I previously used already had rebound damping, and I'd upgraded straight from the elastomer shock to the NR-2, so it's hard for me to say exactly what the benefit of the rebound damping was. I'm sure there was one, though.)
