Hi guys
Just a quick heads up about the Hammerhead caliper mounts for Proflex & K2
I was looking through the bay last night and saw they are available again
from the original manufacturer.
Just thought I'd let you know as lots of interest in these in the past seems like
a good deal at $40

yeah - mike's selling all the varieties again. I've just been scouting around looking for all the instruction manuals etc! All will be the high spec stainless steel variety too. manuals are all on http://www.rapiddescentscotland.co.uk/ (http://www.rapiddescentscotland.co.uk/)
RDS won't be selling them, it has been closed for a few years - I started investing my time and effort trailbuilding in the Stirling area of Scotland and I've taken up an unholy interest in downhill/free ride and ride around on a Santa Cruz Bullit and a heavily customised Orange 5. Interesting, the Orange 5 is the bike that proflex would have evolved to in my opinion. An excellent 5" travel single-pivot bike.

Just bought one for my 4500 from Mike. I've wanted one of these since I bought my bike a few years back. I ride with eight people six of them ride k2 proflex 4000's and 5000's still.

Will a hammerhead fit a 855 ? its not listed but I thought the rear swinger was the same as the 856 which is listed

I would expect so, I had to file my Hammerhead a bit to get it to lie "flat" i.e. parallel to the disc and fit my XP-X and I would expect the swing arm is the same on an 855 except for maybe some additional strengthening welding on the later models?
p.s. it's tough stuff that Swedish Stainless Steel! (sounds like a Heavy Metal band <GRIN>)

the X56HH will fit the 855 - but there is a big HOWEVER. We found that the left hand dropouts on the majority of 855's were very weak indeed. I say the majority because later 855's had a stronger swingarm. The old proflex_heads email group (remember them?) used to call them the 855.3894398. So please take care if you are using this with an 855.
I would only ever use a 140mm or 160mm rotor.
the proflex heads mailling list was fun; Bob Girvin and the old team at Proflex used to join in every now and then to help us out.

Just to be clear, these will fit the carbon swingarm on the 857 I gave my dad? If so, I guess I better buy one while I still can.

all thos adapter make use of the rear wheel drop out.
i cam up with an alternative design which uses the small hole in the drop out and the stay bolt; as below. there is a bearing in which the bolt runs to reduction stiction.
it is made from three peices - the two you can see here, helt together by the 2 countersunk head bolts and a spacer between the calliper in order to align it with the disc rotor. if i had a mill, it would have been made from one piece but I don't hand carved it from aluminium alloy.

There are websites online where you can submit CAD diagrams to be machined by machine shops that specialize in small runs of parts.
How are you isolating the outside surface of the strut pivot from the caliper adaptor? It looks like it would scrub the paint off the strut pivor as the suspension actuates.

nice design - bear in mind though that the machine shops generally work with Aluminium. whilst Al is fine for the Al swingarms (like above) - there were a few cases where Al would transmit heat into the dropout and loosen/melt the glue holding carbon fibre swingarms together.
Mikes adapters are all steel based which does not transmit anything like the amount of heat that aluminium does. it's also stronger and less brittle - but a bit heavier.

Heavy is good for a part that needs to be strong enough to withstand a wheelie.

there is a thin shim between the stayand the inner race so the bolt is clamping the inner race to the stay - the brake adaper has the race pressed into it so the connection between the two is the races - which are low friction. hope the makes sense.
Although it works, I have found it not to be ideal as the bearing wass able to slip out of the adapter - I have since loctited the race in as well as peening the alloy to prevent the race from popping out.
