Title: Newbie checking in
Post by: Neffro on February 12, 2012, 12:48:58 pm
Just joined up yesterday. Found the site through RetrobikeUK. I am getting back into off roading after quite a layoff. Sadly I have been riding the pavement for about 12 years with no serious dirt riding.

Time to get back to the singletrack I love...

...as I was getting all set to do a retromod project on a 1990 Trek 970 I stumble on to this site and get all fired up abut rebuilding my 856. Why not two projects at once?

I bought  my 856 brand new from a factory program that offered a huge discount to law enforcement. Nothing stays stock with me very long and it wound up with a Manitou FS Bulge fork, v brakes, rear Speed Spring and hand built wheels (stock wheels sucked for Clydesdales).

When i stopped riding off road I semi cannibalized the 856 to build stuff for my kids to ride. Eventually my son wound up on the 856 and blew the oil seal out on my rear ODS. It has just sat there collecting dust since. No more. I have already started getting it back in  it's former condition. Sadly the oil cartridge in the Manitou also puked, so I'll be looking for some technical help in the weeks to come.

Pics soon too.

Glad to find you guys, this will be fun.

Scott
