Hi all,
I am thinkling of upgrading to a full suspension bike. I found a proflex on local CL. I have read mixed reviews on this bike with reference to newer technologies. Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of this bike and what to look for as in wear on the bike with shocks and such. I really do not want to spend much on replacing worn out components. Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks, Mike

Holy Crap!!
That is a 957. Perhaps the best bike Proflex ever made. IMO.
Most of the pivot kits are on Ebay. The shocks are rebuildable by j6noleen. To check, just hop up and down. The rear should sound like a squish, and not spring back fast. You will know. The front same thing.
I would not be surprised if the toptube is 23", and if it is it a LARGE.
For $350, it is a steal.

I agree that $350 is a good deal, so offer $250 and get a great deal at 300. If it has not been mis-treated then they hold up well. I can send you a CD with all the factory service info on it if you want. If I was close I would be looking at it myself. The problem with Proflex/K2 is that it is hard to have just one.

that is cheap. a piece of FS history; obviously check the pivots and shocks since these will be the more $$$ to replace.
if medium, I think 6 ft 2 is pushing it a bit .

So?
Did ya get it?

Well I picked the 957 up for $300. Overall the bike seemed to be in good shape and all original besides the pedals and tires. One of the spokes was pulled through the rear rim. I replaced the rims with an older set of mavics off a buddys bike. This bike is super light. I tried to change the rear cassette myself but didn't have the right tools.. so I took it to the LBS. Dude was really familiar with the bike from back in its day. I didn't see any cracks upon first inspection..he noticed a few small cracks around the upper mount on the seat tube. I suggested getting it welded but he said it might cause damage and probably won't present a problem in the future as long as the seat post is mounted correctly. Bike also needs a new headset and rear shock upper mount bushing. cost $22 installed. something about needing a special press for install of bushing.
Overall I think I got a good deal. The frame was heavily oxidized so I polished it up with some flitz metal polish and almost looks new.
Does anyone know where I can get springs for the shocks. These are rated a few pounds heavier than my weight? Pics soon.

Cracks on the upper water bottle mount is common. Just keep an eye on it. Both of mine had cracked.
Yes it is light. Pretty cool eh?
