Title: 550 - Aluminium?
Post by: Colin on May 11, 2011, 04:00:06 am
Hi All,

Is the 550 an Aluminium frame?

and is the swing arm steel?

I'm considering buying one as a Road-Hack/Pub Bike.

I know the swingarm is steel. The frame I think too is steel. both 4130.

I may be wrong, but the alum frame did not appear until 1992.

I like my offroad/proflex even if it has only an inch of travel at the rear. It does the job though.

There was 2! Both of which are tange infinity..

This one 1990

750 Aluminium

950 Aluminium

And then this one 1992

These were both lower range bikes hence the steel frames..Saying that the top of the range 1990 USA LTD was tange prestige (very rare)

Aluminium bikes from 1990 was 750 & 950 models.

1992 aluminium bikes was 552..752..852..862..952..962.

Thanks for the replies, I didn't win the 550, as I was too tight and got outbid at £28.57, quite a bargain at that price!

But I have got too many bikes (is there such a thing?), and the only justification for this was to replace my rigid Marin Pine Mountain which is a steel frame and is starting to get a bit rusty despite the "Teflon" coating!

But instead I'm rebuilding it and made it an honorary PRO~FLEX by adding a Flex Stem to it............<GRIN>

Pub Bike lives on!

Cheers!

You could always try looking for an old rigid offroad frame if you want to keep it in the family. ;D
