I ride a 24 on my Big Hit and had one on my Monkey so here is my list.

Pros:
-Faster accelleration
-Stronger wheel
-Usually run a wider tire/better clearence
-On bikes no designed around a 24, will help slacken  the geometry usually by @ 1-2 degrees
-Lowers ride height/center of gravity helpful in corners
-Wheels generally lighter
-Climbs easier

Cons:
-Tire selection limited
-On bikes not designed for 24, pedals tend to hit obstacles more
-loss of speed and rolling distance. Bike has to be pedaled harder/longer to match same speed and rolling distance of a 26

These are some of the basic issues I've dealt with. Now on my BG allot of the problems are as exaggerated as they were on my Monkey, because it was desinged for the 24. If you have a 26 now, I say keep it and build up a 24. You'll find times when you'll like it and others when you won't, but it's fun to have.
