I am thinking of purchasing a 98 beast built up with mostly LX parts and a dual vrown fork. I don't know very much technical info about the bike or the upgrades. Selling for $400 and is said to be very clean (Black with Red). Is this a good value if condition is good?

I have a 98 animal (which is th e same frame) and like it pretty well. The only drawback is the shock since it is unlike anything else on the market. So when it goes you are stuck.
If it is in good shape I would go for it.

I have 98 Animal, just completed custom build, man its a great frame, solid and plush. go for it. Risse makes aftermarket shocks for this frame. everything else is standard setup.

I have a '98 Beast and love it. Granted, I do ~98% XC riding with mine with only a few jaunts with freeriding a year. I have had no problems with the shock. Actually, I'm just now about to send it to Noleen to get re-built for the first time.
The single pivot design works great and tracks well. It's a very stable ride.
The only thing I'm growing to not like is the double crown fork. I'm looking to change it to a single crown very soon.
