Title: Help Please – Quick answer Needed – Vector’s
Post by: WD Pro on October 06, 2009, 07:46:25 am
Hi,

I bought a couple of rebuild kits for the vectors but they seem to be missing part number 14500 (2 off) which is described as an “o ring (eccentric)”. It seals between the upper leg mount and upper axle rod interface.

The seller is suggesting these are just a standard O ring but could someone confirm ?

One side of my forks were disassembled so at the very best I would only have one of these things to check but looking through the parts box I stripped off the bike I cant find anything that looks out of the ordinary …

Cheers,

WD :)

I think this is probably the small o-ring that goes on the axle with the eccentric ends. One of my Crosslinks is missing one of the o-rings, and I don't think it's an issue...I think it just prevents mud & stuff from entering the shaft hole from the center, where that piece is cut out (which isn't even the case on Crosslinks). I think you could find a suitable replacement at a hardware or electronics store, but you'll want to take one with you as an example (maybe the old one from the other side)?

The others will chime in, but I don't think it's a big deal.

Hi,
I've just checked a Brand New unopened RK005 Kit (Vector Seal Kit) and the O-Rings appear to be missing!

I imported quite a few kits from Iron Horse a couple of years ago and I have used one RK005 kit from that stock on my own Vectors, but to be quite honest I can't remember if the O-Rings were in there or not!

My apologies to anyone that I supplied these kits with and also found the O-Rings missing! (I didn't get any complaints!)

I'd agree that it's just a case of identifying the right O-Ring from a hardware store, but it's annoying that the kits are not complete. The problem might be that the bags are not sealed, just stapled at the top, so there is a chance a piece could fall out.

Thanks guys  :)

Yes, the o rings are missing from both of my kits (I bought 2 bike sets of everything) but as it is a standard ring its not a problem.

The seller is now aware of the problem and have checked their stock - they are all the same !

I was only concerned that it was a special type / bespoke design of seal etc.

Cheers for all your help.

I too bought this kit from the seller on ebay a few months back and noticed the o rings were missing. Although the instructions and parts list mention them. When I informed the seller they sent another kit for free with an appology. This kit also had no o rings, but I didnt mind as I did end up with two kits for the price of one. Result. :)

Could someone with a pair of calipers measure the o-rings? I could then post a McMaster-Carr part number.

Is it the O-Ring that needs measuring or the Eccentric Upper Axle and Upper Link Assembly?

I'd think the latter two?

Which would mean taking mine apart, so not at the mo' <GRIN>

P.S. Crosslinks don't have these, as they don't have an Eccentric Upper Axle and the Upper Axle is not exposed, but does have a grease injection point closed by a M2 screw.

If it's the same one :

9mm id, 13mm od, 2mm section.
