Hi
Ive a 1997 (??? i think) Proflex Beast in Way Big frame size as per the image on link above rather than the elastomer type earlier model, or the later K2 model. Swopped the chubby forks couple of years ago for some Magura forks.... never ridden the bike in probably 8+ years.
Bit (Ok a forkin lot ;D) of middle age spread since last rode the bike and was wondering what weight the Noleen NR2 shock can handle and also how you can tell if its knackered or not.
Also what replacement shocks will fit and do brackets need to be fabricated or anyone selling any fitting kits/solutions? Am in the UK
Hopefully this year will get my lardy @rse back in the saddle.
Will have to have a read up on how to adjust magura brakes and adjust the air forks... hopefully it will all cme back to me, if not trip to the LBS ;)

Not sure about any weight limits for an NR2, but you can tell if it's knackered by whether it's leaking a lot and/or if there's no damping (pogo effect).
You can replace with a Risse (nice but expensive): http://www.risseracing.com/proflex.shtml
Or go back to an ODS shock that came with similar age Proflexes.
Or make an adapter and fit another shock (do a search on here - there have been plenty of threads about this).

cheers for the info will have to have a sniff round site when get a spare 5 mins. I might just get self abck into saddle and see what happens with shock, if its on last legs or gives up the ghost then look at replacements once the bike is actually being used again.
Are Risse still trading in the UK?

no - CVI went bust 3 years ago. But you can buy them from the States. I gather they're having a bit of a communication problem at the moment as they are relocating, but they are still trading I understand.

I f the shock is holding the oil, you should be fine. I had the same Beast as pictured, and the shock blew while on a ride. The shock boot is a good idea.
There are 2 was to tell.
1. OIL ALL OVER THE REAR!
2. BOUNCES LIKE A JACKRABBIT ON CRACK!

DO NOT try to buy anything from Risse...even if you find a place that has their products in stock, you'll never be able to get it serviced...take it from me, you don't want to go that route. I have a $300 inoperable Astro 5 that can't even be used as a paperweight because it leaks oil.
Anyone know anyone out there who can service these things? I pretty much call Risse every week, and yesterday...well...went into a bit of a rant on their answering machine, wondering how Kevin Risse can put his family's name on a product and then not stand by it, and then still look at himself in the mirror the next morning.
Not expecting a call back... ;-)

I just had my Maverick fork rebuilt by Win's Wheels in Westlake Village. He said he can rebuild everything provided he can get parts. Maybe he can get thru to Risse.
Anyway here is his website. Give him a call.

Well this is speculation but, one way to run away from debt is locate in another state. Manufacturing infrastructure in California is devastated right now. Can't really blame him for getting out of California, as taxes are going to be monumental. Besides paying for Obama's adventures, we have a giant welfare situation. We can't even borrow money for education programs to get the matching funds from Obama.

I just had my Maverick fork rebuilt by Win's Wheels in Westlake Village. He said he can rebuild everything provided he can get parts. Maybe he can get thru to Risse.

Thanks for the heads-up, Shov :-) I emailed them yesterday...at this point I'm almost considering just getting a Fox Float R since they make it in an 8.5 size, which seems right for the rear of my 4000, if I can find one cheap on FleaBay. Anyone have something like this on the rear? If so, whaddya think about it?

I think it would work fine provided you have a long travel fork in the front. If you have a crosslink, I think the front will not have enough lift. But I have run an 8.5" Swinger coil, and 120 mm Rockshox Psylo on my Oz with great results.

I was mainly thinking about the rear...I have a Way Big, which means the i2i on the front is like 9.25 or more. The Risse Genesis I purchased for the front actually works (shocker!) and is really light...so I was just looking for something to replace the leaking, squeaking Astro5 that has had issues since the day it was first installed (there goes my heart rate...serenity now!).
I really want Callum to reverse engineer that Fox shock extension for the Crosslink, which was in that eBay.uk auction :-)

9.25 for a WayBig? That's a new one on me. I always thought it was 8.25" i2i. Well that does make some sense, as a large fork is taller.
So you just need a crossblock for a strutless swingarm. Would that be correct?

Yeah, the Way Big front shock is quite long...that's why I was so excited to see that adaptation on eBay.uk...because if you have a Way Big, the only shock options seem to be the stock Noleen or the Risse Genesis...and until today I'd pretty much given up on Risse.
The rear shock seems much easier to replace on the Way Big...just find any 8.5" shock...right now Cambria Bike has a few older Float R shocks in stock at nice discounts, in 7.5 and such sizes...I was tempted to pick one up to try to adapt it to my Way Big carbon Crosslink, but then Risse answered the phone and I decided to wait to see if I can make good on my set of Risse shocks. If that falls through maybe I'll run the Risse up front and a Fox Float R 8.5 in the rear. I've done way too much to lighten my bike just to lose all that savings to the stock shock springs :-/
OR Anyone have a 600lb titanium spring with a 3.5" free length they're willing to part with? Don't even know if anyone ever made a Ti spring that would have worked with the 4000's rear Noleen shock.

My 4000se with a retrofit 90mm long, 550lb Ti spring that works very well on a NR-4 Shock..............I also have a 600lb one in case I put on any more weight...........<GRIN>

So where on earth did you find such a spring? I've looked all over...the "Proflex" Ti springs on US eBay actually work fine as Vector/Crosslink front springs for me, but I've never found anything appropriate for the rear.
How 'bout this...I put you on an exercise program and you sell me the 600 lb spring? ;-) LOL

i have a mountainspeed spring on my Oz (cantilever) swingarm, but i dunno if they are even selling springs. some minor shaving of the spring was needed.
i tried to look though their website and could not find any spring accessories for bicycle shocks like b4.
i do have a 650# steel to sell, but currently it is being used as an achor in the Bering Sea ;)
a risse genesis can be tough to tune for a cross~link
