Title: Vector 2 lower link
Post by: jonski on April 07, 2009, 07:28:45 am
Does anyone have a unified lower link hanging around that they might part with?  My fork keeps twisting and wants to turn right all the time. javascript:void(0); Also looking for a pair of heavy weight cor springs for my 856 with above mentioned fork.  I went to Callum's site but he's not listing any for sale.  Thanks!

http://idriders.com/proflex/resources/unified_link_instr.pdf         here's what I need.  sorry I don't know how to make a direct link.  Thank's for reading!

Hi Jonski,

So your lower link is damaged or broken? I don't understand how it could twist. My vector 2 lower link has the pinch bolts instead of what is on the PDF.

the best I can describe is that my fork has two separate lower links  instead of the "unified" version.  after a big hit it will knock the legs out of parallel causing the fork to track funny. There is a tech sheet explaining how to properly re-align the fork, but  I am under the impression that this is common and the "link" was Girvin's solution.

Right you are. I learned something tonight. Mine are separate like yours, guess I have not hit something too hard.

I've been on the lookout for a GFULK - Unified Lower Link for my Vectors pretty much since I bought the bike new in 1998.
and I've never seen one.............
I only really want one because they look good (like a Crosslink lower link), i.e. less clunky than the two lower links and maybe a bit lighter?

I've got the alignment tech sheet and other than doing it once purely for the fun of it, I have never had to make use of it.

I'm surprised that you need to re-align your forks so often, but I guess that a hard enough hit could cause it to keep happening, but I'm concerned that you say the fork wants to keep turning to the right, sounds like it is permanently misaligned (bent?)

Have you got any piccies of it to see if there is anything wrong with it?

Col.

Would one from a crosslink work? They look to be the same size but I have not tried to swap it. You would not be able to adjust the swing path like the other style though. I have a crosslink one spare from a parted out fork.

sadly, a friend of mine gave me some crosslink parts, and they are not the same size.  the lower link is almost a cm too long.  I guess I'll have to just keep re-aligning it as needed.  I'm not a lightweight (at 220lbs) so it may be that I just put a bit more force on it than others.   Thanks for the replies.

Anyone have a set of  stiffer/ heavyweight springs they wish to part with?
