Hi
My rear shock on my 954 currently has worn out elastomers on it . The spacing allowed is 75mm .
Can anyone help in which configuration of elatomers I should buy from Rapiddecent as I dont know which ones to buy and unfortunatly have not had much luck cotacting rapiddecent .
I would however like to put a coil spring on instead anyone know if this would work ?
Last of all what would be in my shock , i took the allen nut off the top and pushed it up and it looked like grease ? I would like to know how to top it up , with what , and how much .
Many thanks
P.S This is an extra post to the "CANT FIT VECTORS ON 954" so sorry if this is a bit of a repeat .

That is a rare shock, and maybe it is a heavy duty friction damper. Makes sense that it would have a loose action and no seals.
If that is the case, a steel spring would make a pogo stick out of the shock :o. From the looks of the verticle shock placement, it looks like you have about a 60/40 leverage ratio. I would not think that is much different than an 856 or 956 with elastomer rear shock.
So if you are in the YouQue ;), Callum may be able to work out a solution with you.
Good Luck,
Terry

Thanks , I think i must be in that Que and i am guessing its quite longggggggggggggggggggg
Its a shame as i think it may hold up the project but they do say good things come to those who wait , maybe he is doing a bit of research before he makes his post , or he may just be very busy at the moment , Im quite happy to be patient as long as i get the correct results .
Any clue what may be an my damper then ? and how to top it up correctly ?
Thankyou

Mine from a 956 LE is just a greased up shaft with a sliding disc. At the butt end it has a rubber ball to bottom out on. Actually I like fast acting shocks and may load it up with elastomers some day.
Temporaily you could cut up some inner tubes into waffers and get by. ???

Hi Shovelon,
So is your unit full of grease or is it the disc that causes the pressure ? My unit for the moment is quite easy to push in and does not pop out on its own , you have to pull it out .

Yes, mine is full of grease too. The disc does not push out on its own. There is a grease hole on the side of mine. One thing that ruins the polyurethane in the elastomer is petroleum grease. Synthetic grease has no solvents that deteriorate it.

Should I fill it right up to the top then with synthetic grease ? ???

Well I would not fill it up, but wipe out the old grease, and put a nice coating of new grease in.

Sid,
I just installed Rapid Desent Scotlands's 656 elastomers on my 954 - a perfect fit. ;D
As the lever ratio on the rear of the 954 is a bit more than the 8xx bikes, I wouldn't recommend the softer kit unless you weigh less than 120 lbs.
Let me know if you have any luck with a coil spring conversion.

Thanks Trajectory,
I am about to order some also from RDS as I have had no luck with the coil spring conversion, my bike is almost complete now .
Are you going to post a pic then ? Mine should be up in the next few days .

Thanks Trajectory,
...Are you going to post a pic then ?

It's a 16 inch frame. (I heard the frames built "big", so I ordered the bike a little smaller than I normally would.)
I had the swingarm and handlebar painted yellow to match the Judy fork.
I didn't ride it much when it was new (too small! :D). My (now) ex-wife rode it very little, my brother-in-law had it for a while, and now I have it again as my son's first mountian bike.
I'm second-guessing my thought of the standard MCU656R elastomers. Because the stroke is soo short on the 954 rear shock, it may have to use the MCU656RSOFT kit. We're running the soft kit right now for a 115 lbs. rider, and it seems about perfect - but this is before running through the entire "break-in" period.
I'll keep you posted.

Nice , is slightly different to mine , waiting on my elastomers from RDS then will post mine .
