Im servicing my vectors and would like to renew the bolts that hold them together - as they are a bit rusty. I have some anodised aluminium bolts left over from a motor bike project but would they be strong enough? I know they are used for decorative purposes and suspect the stresses from the vectors would be too great. Ive checked the literature but it doesnt mean anything to me. It says:
7075T73 High Tensile Aluminium
Yeild strength (psi) of 490 - 560 Mpa
Before I do myself an injury I thought Id ask.

I've replaced most of the bolts on a couple of bikes, the rule of thumb I was told to use was if its a stress point like say canti studs, use steel, stainless or Ti, others like bottle mounts & brake lever clamps use alloy.
Not sure about the yield figures but Shovelon will definitely know more.

Those are nice screws, but they do have a very small elongation before yield. With the shear characteristics of the joint, I don't think I would chance it on the leg pivots.
But would make for an interesting test if you go fer it. ;D

I thought as much. No prob I'll just have to get the Ti catalogue out and hide the bank statements....again. ;D
