Title: K2 4000/5000 Rear Shock Length?

Hello all,

I'm just curious about something ("This is George. He was a good little monkey, and always very curious")...what is the correct eye-to-eye length for the rear shock on a K2 4000 or 5000? Mine looks to be around 7.5" (don't have a great ruler with me) uncompressed, but the frame would certainly pivot to handle something longer. Just wondering if my shock is shorter, and that's one reason why the Way Big frame fits me well. I'm 5' 10" and figured the Way Big would be too large, but it feels right when I ride.

I'm sure someone here can answer your question, but if not..

I don't know whether they're the same, but if you can confirm that they are, then I can go measure the length on my K2 3000's rear shock...

Doug,

The factory i2i is 8.25 inches. But I think for your height 7.5 inches worked out for you on a WayBig.

What brand and model shock is your 7.5 inches?(curious George?) ;D

Hey!
Looks like it's the standard Noleen NR unit with the remote can, mounted upside down like many pictures I've seen (I tried to flip it, but the mounting point widths are different and I wasn't able to remove the pressed in spacers). I'd love to have the longer travel of a longer shock, but perhaps I need the shorter shock so I can fit the frame.

Hmmmm..........8.25" (209mm) is the standard rear shock length and I've never seen a shorter version...............probably just a measurement accuracy issue?

Unless the shock has collapsed a bit..............

But....those "spacers" (bushes) should be removable.......or at the very least they should rotate on the shock body so that you don't get any nasty creaks and possible wear issues.
Maybe you need to get some penetrating oil on them and free them off (without damaging them of course)

Hey all,

This past weekend I did about 30 miles on the 4000 and it turns out the rear shock is around 8.25"...I must have measured incorrectly before. The rear swing arm does seem like it could accommodate a longer shock, though. Anyone running an 8.75 or something like that?
