anyone know where i can get hold of a replacement washer kit for my 856 forks. I recently stripped and rebuilt them and noticed the washers are on their last legs. I want to change them before i put the forks through a 1000 miles of boredom on the roads!
Andy.
Oh and on a completely different note, i think im coming up for a transmission refresh, any suggestions for chain rings? can i change just the rings or is it a complete new chainset. will be changing the rear cassette too.
-
washers: Colin may have some?
chainrings - just change the rings (and the cassette as you say) and the chain while you're at it. No need to change cranks.
-
unless you want to suggest that "changing the cranks and bottom bracket is nearly as cheap as just the rings and then it'll all be new and there aren't the other bits to worry about wearing out, luv, so can I please" 'cos you fancy some shiny new cranks!

Hmm...
can i justify a shiny xtr chainset?? ::)
i do have concerns about the bottom bracket too as its been ages since its been changed and i seem to go through them pretty quick usually.
Does anyone know the size/spec of chainset i would need to buy? (cos im lazy and also because i want to be absolutely sure what i need)
I guess it could also be easier than finding chain rings to fit.
OK....COLIN!! where art though? :)

the only problem with changing the BB and chainset is you'll need to work out the correct length of BB axle for the new chainset. If you keep your current BB (which unless there's some play in it I would leave where it is) and current cranks, just change the rings, you don't have to worry.
There's only 2 sorts of rings basically - standard and compact. Take your old rings to a bike shop and ask for some new ones, or ask if they are standard/compact and then buy some off chainreaction.

ive got a race face ride xc chainset and bb for sale (im currently chasing a cracking noise on my oz and its one of the things ive replaced, crack is still there so it wasnt the chainset!) its in very good condition with only a couple of nicks out of the crank arms where theyve caught on rocks is got 44, 32, 22 rings on it standard stuff, pm me if your interested.

856 was 68/110 bb i think

Andy,
Sorry, completely out of Vector and Crosslink Seal (washers) Kits and Bearing Kits.
Just 856 and 4000/5500 Main Pivot kits left.
Do you want to start a waiitng list and I'll see if I can get some more?
yep 856 BB was 68/110 as standard (despite the fact my Fikko LBS put a 68/113 on instead, but not too much difference.)
I'd agree with Orange, that all you need to do is change the chain rings, cassette and chain, (just done that on my 4000se) but then again you might pick up a nice complete chainwheel set with the chain rings included for a good price.

Colin, yes please stick me on wait for a set, although in the mean time i will look around for something i can use instead as my end to end is less than a month away and i want my bike bomb proof before i set off.
so a 68/110 BB will work? i assume i can fit pretty much any chainset to that?
I will also look into just chain rings, this could be the easier option.
Jeffhop, i take that set is for an 856? how much are you asking and do you have any pics? :)
