Title: Crosslink fox float upgrade update (MULA lite 1.3)
Post by: jazclrint on May 27, 2008, 06:55:29 pm
Ok, after having done this a few years ago several of you habe resently shown some real interest in my Fox Float upgrades I did.  The issue was I lost all of my drawings.  I tried to get one on my engineering buddies to do up some drawings before school ended, but it didn't work out.  So I worked the fork drawings up this weekend.  I have modified the design because with the longer stroke of the shock (extra 1/4") I found that I can put equal amount of travel on either end of the wheel travel, put the shock to it's recommended sag setting if I lower the pivot point 3mm, and create some more room for the shock at the same time.  Also after only riding in the fall I found that my pivot bolt design wore out much faster than I expected, so I have modified that in my new design.  I have yet to get these modded bits made.  So, unfortunately for those interested, I have to do some more R&D and drawing before I feel comfortable passing out any drawings.  I am also waiting to hear back from Push.  I called and they got really behind in e-mails and still haven't gotten back to me.  But it sounds like I really hit them from left field. :D  The rear adapter won't take long to draw up, but it doesn't seem to have as much interest.  I would like to just make a new ULM with the upper pivot moved to the right place, but that's gonna take some work with a ruler and graph paper.  It would probablly cost more, but be sooo much simpler to install and maintain.

So please be patient, I will do it as I can.  Just know that the R&D will probablly be done on race courses around the state of Maine with a 220lb rider.  They'll be sturdy but light designs.  ;D

So you will be making these as an upgrade to the existing links? I think you are right, the shock is key to the whole thing.

I'm here.  My old design has issues with wearing out.  I have a new design I have been working on, but just haven't had it made yet.  Any questions?

Look forward to seeing the finished mk2 design for the front end. Good work. I've already fitted a Fox float R pro pedal to the rear so the matching front would finish it off.

OK update time. Well, so I did a very different redesign and have stuck an 8.5" i-i and 2.5" stroke shock in there, which matches what I am running on the back. There have been issues with fit, but I am working on making it as easy a bolt on issue as possible. But some filing/dremel tooling will be needed, and the valve stem clearance is proving to be a PITA. I had put it on upside down but didn't realize how little travel I was getting due to clearance with the shock body. So I am back to right side up. I have plenty of time to work this out though, as I pieced together a 1X11 drivetrain only to find the IRD 11spd cassette useless. And finding a decent alloy rim brake rim is next to impossible. Might as well do a disc brake conversion at the same time I guess.
