Title: Critical measurement
Post by: Spokes on February 23, 2008, 02:11:40 pm
Can anyone tell me the critical measrement of std Girvin elite forks. Looked in the 'How Tos' and it shows 163mm for Noleen Cross links. Is it the same measurement for the elite?

Pretty sure its the same irregardless of which crosslink model it is other than the actual size of  fork S,M or L

the critical measurement is actually the distance between your crotch and the top tube  ;)

the girvin crosslink has a slightly smaller CM 152 mm i think, same as the vectors. If you look in the earliest nollen crosslink manual i think there is a reference to different bikes at the end,and thats also where the reference is to the smaller CM.The nolleen crosslinks grew a little bit to accomodate the smartshocks.

the 2000 and 3000 were atually the 857 and 957 "re badged" for 1998 so they retained the  girvin crosslink albeit relabelled as noleens....Does this mean you dont need my vectors?

prolly beating a dead horse here but in 98 all the crosslinks were labelled noleen but some were actually girvins....not sure how you tell the difference if they have been de or re labbelled.I think there may be some differences in the shape of the ulm but cant be sure.

the only difference I noted between my Girivin crosslinks and my Noleen ones were that the Girvin ones had a stop/guide for canti brakes and the Noleen didn't.

if you have both ed (both stds i assume) yu can measure the distance between the top and lower mount of the links to the legs...I think the noleen is slightly longer there to aloow the smarts to fit.

The dimension btween the 2 pivots(upper and lower) on the fork leg is 130mm +/- 1-2mm.
Suppose you could PM Bohngy or "ASK THE SELLER A QUESTION" on his ebay sale for the Noleens!

Orange,
Were many of the Noleen labelled Crosslinks finished in white?

there was a rash of them on Ebay a year or so back from ediscountbikes.com or somesuch site. I haven't seen many others, but they are out there, they do come up reasonably regularly on Ebay.
Title: Re: Critical measurement - what is it for a Vector 2?
Post by: balcs on February 26, 2008, 10:01:21 pm
I take it from the above that the critical measurement for a Vector 2 is 153 mm? I recently picked up what I believe is a Vector 2 (polished Al legs, ODS shock, no integrated stem, no decals) that isn't mounted, so I need the CM to mount it. It looks to be around 160mm. Any help? Thanks.

yep 153 or so..sounds like you have a vector AL as mounted on a 856

AFAIK any white crosslink WILL be a noleen and have a CM of 163mm
