Can anyone help me with getting springs for my 856.
I have my bike in bits and want to get it back together ASAP
I cant seem to get a response from Rapid Descent ive been trying for a few weeks now.
Anyone else got some for sale, or know where there is some?
My last resort may be Risses racing but i cant really afford this option at the moment.

try posting over on www.retrobike.co.uk there may be somebody there who has some lying around. I know there are quite a few Proflex owners there.

WE need to get that stuff.I have talked with Callum before about buying some of this stuff and making available for a fair price to the forum.I am talking with a guy in the UK re some shocks.The question is of course how/who/where.I am willing to go halves or thirds or quarters in this stuf and having it stored at someones place until it goes to someone on the forum...if it becomes a drag then maybe we can sell it or someone else can step up to buy a share.....Perhaps it can even become a spring library where springs can be swapped for the desired weight.I would say the springs would be appicable for ods,gdt and noleen shock....what say you????I would do it myself but as I am on the other side of the world shipping becomes a problem.

I have a feeling the Noleen springs are a different size to the ODS ones (longer and thinner diameter?)

also those Noleen springs are too light for rear use at 200-225lbs aren't they? That's what you'd have up front surely?

Stick with RDS, I'm sure Callum will respond when he's back from holiday.
This is definately the most economic way to "spring" back to life an older MCU bike.
Usually, the way you can tell if he is working is if there are prices against the items in his shop, if you can't see them, then he's not selling.
Yep, 200 to 250lb springs for front and 250 to 450 for the back of a strut bike (x56/57)
The coil springs on the Speedspring converted ODS on my XP-X (856) are 88mm long but this is dependant on the spring conversion "top hats" that you use. Obviously Callum's set will all work together. I use a 200lb on front and a 350lb on rear, virtually the same as the RDI set, I weigh 90 - 95Kg.
A front NR-5 smartshock takes a (maximum length) 91mm spring, whilst a rear one will take a 95mm coil.
A rear NR-4 can use a 90 to 110 mm coil
A rear NR-2 can use a 100 to 115mm coil.
I am pretty sure that the internal and external diameters are the same for all of them.

looks an interesting buy, but... depends if they ship to UK and also depends if they are useful springs. They are the last few that never sold, so does that mean they are the ones no one wants or needs.
I havnt got a clue what spring rate or size i need for my 856, so i wouldnt be too confident that just buying stuff off ebay like that would solve my problem.
I thought it would be straightforward to get an old bike going again! >:(
Probably a good thing that im not restoring the old Kirk revolution thats sat in my garage!

ive got a spring sat in front of me that i used to have on my old xpx which had an noleen shock fitted its dimensions are 115mm long, 31mm id, 47.5mm od i dont know what the weight of it is but its free if you want it.

The XPX is very similar to 856 isnt it? not sure about the noleen shock though, does anyone know if it would work?
Is it front or rear?

I have an NR2 that was on my 957 that I'm keeping as a spare for if/when my risse needs servicing. It weeps a little oil, but you could borrow it until you get properly sorted, get you riding short term, and you are only just down the road.

Im hoping ive just solved the problem though....
Just placed an order for a genesis front shock and an astro 5 rear from Risse.
Fingers crossed they will turn up in a week or so....
watch this space.
I'll report back here with how i got on as it may be useful to know for anyone else whos thinking of getting some bits from Risse.

apparently getting the valving just right with a Risse can be tricky, but they do help you out and will re-do it for you. Sometimes you may need a bit of perseverance. Doesn't help when we're this side of the pond.

I had to give my weight so they can set the shock up as much as possible at the factory, although im guessing that is mainly the oil side, i will probably have to set up the air side myself.
Im not planning any real hardcore off roading so souldnt cause a problem, plenty of time to twek it too, as long as im up and going in the next few weeks all will be good!

I am sure that terry has been down this path..He had several attempts at getting a rise right.See if you cn ensure they set it up with that experience in mind!

I had the same concerns when ordering my risse (genesis front, astro 5 rear) following shovelon's issues - but the were both absolutely fine when they arrived.
120 psi front and 180 psi rear for 180lb rider (firm ride) and haven't had to change anything since. The adjuster on the rear is awkward to use on the move so I leave it in the middle.

Josh is the go to guy at Risse. He sorted out my 2 Genesis, and found out that a bypass port was undersize in both cases. My guess it that the genesis was built for the rear and was ported as such. When used for the front crosslink, the port needs to be bigger, so they open it and all is better.
In the end, the vector shock, with approx 1 inch of stroke works very well. My crosslink genesis just has too much stiction for my liking, and after 3 attemps at revalving, I just reckon the bushing is just too tight. I did find out that all you have to do to tune the damping yourself is play with different viscosities of oil. I just could not get the crosslink shock to unstick fast enough. Maybe with more time to break-in it would free up, but I am not getting any younger you know. >:(

I think you have just missed the boat on this one. My Risse shocks havnt turned up yet though (im expecting them this week) so if it all goes belly up, i will be sure to give you a call.
Have you been eating stuff you shouldnt, or drinking too much of the stuff you should?
(not that i have any sympathy if you have been on holiday and skiing while ive been decorating! ;D )
