Title: ODS and strut assembly for ejunker

Orange, I need your help. How do I remove the ODS shaft from the Girvin strut? It's been long enough since I put it together that I don't recall how it went together and I haven't found a good diagram or set of instructions. None came with my parts.

Is the shaft end threaded? I don't remember it being so, but bumping the strut-shaft screw didn't dislodge it and before I gave it a more vigorous thump, I thought I'd better ask. I put a bit of Kroil down the shaft to loosen it - maybe that will help.

If the shaft has a threaded end, is there a cross hole in the shaft to stop it turning? Or is there another technique? None of my non-marring jaw pliers can get through the spring to grip the shaft.

I'm looking forward to anyone's response on this.

Thanks.

Ed.

OK here were are. The shaft is not threaded, but what happens is it tends to get a little stuck in the bottom of the cone adapter which is a little widget which sits as an interface between your strut and the shaft of the ODS to keep the ODS in place nice and straight. If you loosen the strut bolt that keeps it all together a bit then lift the weight off the strut (so it can naturally separate as the shaft comes loose from the cone adapter) you should be able to gently knock it out of the cone adapter by tapping the bolt, before undoing the bolt completely. Some penetrating oil should help here. Alternatively, remove the bolt entirely and lift the frame by the saddle and gently knock the swingarm down. Anything that basically separates the shaft from its recess in the cone adapter. Hope this is understandable!!
