Title: Colour scheme...
Post by: 4500_rider on October 09, 2007, 12:17:29 am
... ok... daft question but i'll ask it anyway... am busy completing a new, light, hartdtail race build (Scale 20)... some of the componentry so far has the colour gold in it:

Pedals - Crank Bros Egg Beater 4ti (just the spring & spindle is gold)
Chain - KMC X9SL (gift)
Cassette - Scandium KCNC 12-25t (never use the granny cog)

Majority of the bike is black - frame, forks, stem, handlebars, grips, seatpost, saddle, tyres, etc

The lettering on the decals on the frame are white with a bit of grey.

The only silver/brushed alu on the bike is on the pedals, derailleurs, shifters and face of the crank arms... all XTR 2007

I have yet to get the following - disc brake set, wheelset & seat clamp

- I want Marta SL's for the disc brake...available in gold;
- The seatpost clamp will be from Hope... available in gold;
- The wheelset will be a custom build - ZTR Olympic rims, DT Revolution spokes & Tune hubs.  Rims and spokes will be black, the hubs however... available in gold.

Now... do you think getting all of the above in the gold colour option would look stupid?  In my head, and as far as my limited imagination goes... it looks ok.

Yep! it'd look stupid!

(That's not really the reply you were looking for was it?) <GRIN>

Hey! Go for it! sounds really Bling!

Black and Gold sounds a good combo!

I can't criticise, I'm still in '90's fluorescent lycra land!

Man, that is really great looking, and must be really light.

How about these ti-look xtr crank skins to match the gold scheme.

Damn... want those crank skins... but i've got 180mm crank arms!

As for the weight.... "on paper" its coming in at 8.02kg or 17.68lbs... but havent had chance to weigh it as a whole bike so it may be a bit more... fingers crossed less.

Now.... gotta lighten up my 4500!

Bling ka-ching!

My wallet hurts just looking at it. But it is, as you say, lovely.

... Just BTW, I was at a mega bike store today in Dallas and saw all the latest and greatest from Interbike. Very impressive. But on the way out, I saw the "pre-owned" bike section which was a bit of a museum collection. It was loaded with old "must have" bikes like the IBOC, the Trek Super V, etc. The one stand out thing was the amount of anodized CNC'd aluminum left over from the 90's. I love the new Scale and wonder if our sport has finally gotten to where the bikes don't change radically every 2-3 years.

Go get 'em tiger!

Wow!  Where did you find the gold chain?  I looked up the KMC and their website shows a silver chain.

Jeffhop... she's already dirty... filthy in fact... covered in mud... but thats the way it should be!

Yeah... the bike sure did beat my wallet around somewhat... cost of almost £2.73 per gram

Thunderchild... have also IM'd you but got the gold chain off ebay... just search for "gold KMC" and you should get some results... the "missing link" on these KMC chains though are renowned for coming off.. touch wood mine hasnt... but its a good idea to have an SRAM powerlink connector handy.

I'm just glad I don't have to race you uphill. (Be glad to give it a go down hill, tho...)

Hope you meant L2.73 per decagram! $42,000 is a lot for any bike.
