Title: Death of a 957
Post by: Dan Langille on August 13, 2007, 05:18:31 am: My 957 has lasted nearly 11 years. Yesterday, I found that one of the fork drop-outs was receeding into the fork.

so bonding might not be possible?
I wonder if this has come about because without being noticed, the dropout came loose some time ago and has pounded into the tubing..........maybe a case for Aly fork legs? after all the carbon ones are only very slightly lighter (73g!)

From his Blog comments it sounds like he wants ("needs") a new bike anyway! see my comments on the thread on "how do you replace a PRO~FLEX".....buy a Whyte 46 !!!! <GRIN> sub 30lbs and perfect for XC (IMHO!) He's now found the justification!

As you say, "....the bike is 11 years old......." then you must have been one of the first to buy one of these in 1996 ? more likely 1997 surely?

The 957 is a 1997 model. They arrived in the shops in late 1996. I bought in December 1996 if I recall correctly.

I don't know what you are thinking of doing with the rest of the fork, but my carbon crosslink has twisted top pivots. It still works but would be interested in bits, uk based though. Sorry to seem like a circling vulture.

one fork leg, frame, swing arm, etc.

I also have unused pivot rebuild kits.
