Title: 856 for parts 20" selling cheap locally
Post by: mizunole on August 07, 2007, 09:06:03 am
Anyone want to go in on an 856 for parts?  local craigslist has one listed @ $160 US.  I figured if there was enough of us who wanted spare parts, we could probably pick it bone dry.  So far I just know that it has red (Eibach pro MS) springs.  I am not looking for a profit, just some cheap hard to find spare parts.

I have contacted the owner and she seems very pleasant to deal with but is unwilling to part or ship.  I don't have an issue with shipping, or parting.  Just with funds (Summer is tough on teachers).

How do I post pics again?

From the pics the bike looks pretty OEM and in seemingly good condition.  Eibach springs on the front and back.

Using your photo hoster;

(http://), stick URL between.

You need to keep your image size low, I reduce to 60%.

the picture needs to be on the web somewhere. So you will have an adres something like
http://idriders.com/newforum/yabbimages/emoticons/nod.gif

if you then type{img}http://idriders.com/newforum/yabbimages/emoticons/nod.gif{/img} but use [ brackets instead of { brackets you will see your pic!

Could be the photo size needs to be reduced.

I could use a spare rear strut. The swingarm is the good one, and the frame looks in great shape.
$160 for the whole bike is a bargain.

Anyone know how much it is to ship a frame across the Atlantic?

To be honest, I am only really after the wheelset and whatever parts go unused.  I was sure that the other pieces would generate enough interest to cover the cost.  I would be willing to contribute about $25 overall purchase, maybe $50 depending on how much is taken.

Either way, if there is a person in need (or at least in deep want) of some spares...  I don't mind doing the legwork.

much as I am tempted the shipping would be prohibitive for the frame...but...how much would you do the forks and rear mech for (incl. shipping to UK)? Can be sent by surface (much cheaper...and slower) if necessary.

Total including my $25 or so must = $160.  If you want the forks and rear mech, Shovelon wants the strut I would say that would be about a 65/35 split (IMHO) for the remaining $135 which would be about $87 US to you.  The more people who want parts, the cheaper the price gets to each person. I don't think any of us really want to make a dime, just some quality parts for cheap.  Hypothetically, everything would be through paypal + 4% (what paypal charges for transactions).

At this point, I have only seen the pictures that I put on Flikr.  If I get enough people to commit, I will go check out the bike and we can start cussing and discussing when to pay what.  Shipping will be actual cost.  My wife works at a catalog company and it should be cheaper than normal (although I have no idea what international shipping proceedures / charges are.)

Might be a bad idea, but I figured it was worth a shot..

Well, provisionally I am intererested - let's see who else chips in. Can I put word around on other forums like www.retrobike.co.uk?

S'all good.  Just let them know nothing is set in stone until the money is committed. This thing may sell to someone else before we get anything organized.

I would be interested in the swingarm and complete front forks if it does not work out for Orange. Thanks for taking the time to help us all out. Brad.

Well, just as we thought it was over, the roller coaster contnues.  The other buyer bailed and I snapped it up when the seller dropped the price.  I am parting it and selling it to recover the price and upgrade some other stuff.

Shovelon, Orange and Willie B, if you are still interested, I will not sell the swingarm, strut or fork untiil next Sunday or until you have emailed me what you think a fair price would be for those parts.

Those and others I will be selling on ebay are posted on  http://www.flickr.com/photos/11178241@N02/
.  I will monitor this thread for any offers anyone else wants to give.

Perfect timing... maybe. I just snapped my rear shock mount and bent the strut this morning. (Crazy side loads are not good for strut shocks.)
If it's available, I'll bid on the rear shock. If Terry changes his mind, I'll throw a bid for the strut too.

Will

I'll let you know when Terry let's me know.  I will talk with both of you before posting on ebay or I will post next Sunday.  (I already have the shifters @$25, the LX canti's @$25 and a wheelset @$50 (kept the gold Mavics for myself!).

I think that Terry just wanted a spare so you may want to sweet talk him.

I am not sure what I am selling the shock for yet, but if I am not mistaken, you have first dibs.  My email should work under contact info and I will take offers on what you think is reasonable.

BTW, what type of shock was it? I have an extra Noleen dampener (without cone or spring) that works (but is a little leaky.)  Since I bought my Risse, and I only XC, I doubt I will need it.

Willie-B - you have the forks if you want them - I've just blown a bit of cash elsewhere and need to recoup! Thanks anyway for the heads up!

Yep, I could pass it forward it to Will.

Will if yours is not to bent, it could be bent back. Have done it all to often myself.:-)

So, what is your plan for the front triangle? The whole frameset is a peach.
