Title: replace v-brake springs?
Post by: Dennis on May 17, 2007, 11:13:15 am
Hi,

I have not posted on here in a real long time, so hello to everyone!! I have been riding my Oz a lot, and now something has finally broken.

The return spring on one of really cool blue anodized precision billet v-brakes has broken. What happened was that the mounting bolt loosened up and the brake turned and the part of the spring that goes into the little hole on the fork mounting thing got bent. So, I tried to bend it back and it broke off.

Does anyone know if these springs are available anywhere? precision billet went out of business a long time ago, so I can't send it back to them. There must be a way to replace the spring, anybody know how?

thanks for all the help.
Dennis

Hi Dennis, long time. I have been wondering if you were riding Blue Crush.

Bummer on that spring. A few boys on the Weight Weenies forum have been making their own springs from Ti spokes. So, I imagine that a stainless spoke could do the trick.

It might be possible to weld that little piece back on, if you still have it.

I'm guessing it's not the same sort of spring that could be found in a cheap set of v-brakes you could 'borrow'?
