Is there anyone else running a disc front older PF? Just curious. Pictures?

sorry - not sure what you mean? How old does it have to be? I have an 857 with front and rear discs if that counts?

Did you have to mod the rear end? If so how? I am currently running a disc front V rear setup and like it. pics?
I was just curious how the rest of the pre disc tab Pro Flex world chose to set up their rigs.

It was already modded when I bought it, a simple aluminium shaped bit attached to rear drop outs. Yes I know, as soon as rear brake needs bleeding I'll sort the cable routing!! :-)

This is a cool cable routing trick I found on MTBR. The blue tube on the zip tie is off a Camelback hose.
That assmbley looks nice. Obviously no issues?

Early days yet - not had frame long and only been on one ride - but no issues yet! Seems strong enough. Behind the plate you see, there is one in the shape of a telephone receiver in profile for extra support and 2 thick washers. Hard to describe really.
neat routing on those forks!

Interesting postscript to this thread. I went out for ride number 2 today and coming down a fast and rocky descent, the rear hub jammed solid (dodgy cones on the axle) so after skidding around 40 feet and the rear skewer exploding (and disappearing to who knows where!), the rear wheel pops out of the drop outs, jams again and massively bends the rear brake disc...but apart from a bent disc no other damage - the brake adapter held on and if it can under those circumstances I am happy!!

the trick with the cable tie and camelback is good , you can get a ready made piece like that in aluminium from a company in the uk
one goes on the fork legs and holds the cable firmly while the other fits at the top of the stantion but the cable moves through it
about £8.00 , i think

Don't you have to thread the cable through the metal part with those? I have thought about buying those as well, but it is not worth the time / effort / pain in the ass it is to rebleed a brake hose.
That sucks about your rear hub Orange. I hate working on hubs about as much as I hate bleeding hydrolic brakes!

Yeah - not sure how to fix it either - what happens is the cone washer that the ball bearings run against loosens and jams into the ball bearings. How do you tighten up the cone outwards on the drive side so it doesn't do this?? Do you have to do something from the other end of the axle?
So difficult to explain, but essentially if you work your way in to the hub from the outside there is a threaded washer that sits against the drop out then you have another non-threaded washer then the threaded cone - I've never figured out how you tighten the threaded cone washer against the non-threaded washer when it is mostly if not all recessed in the hub? You can do one side like this with the axle removed from the hub, but you can't do the other when the axle is then back in the hub.
Probably not making myself clear here...

no bleeding neccesary
they are hinged , you just close them around the cable and the legs and tighten them up

Oh it's clear alright... Clear you are making a trip to the LBS sometime soon. I had a similar issue when I unknowingly loosened a M-495 rear hub while trying to take off a Shimano rotor. It is either too tight or too loose. The Park tools website is the best I have seen at explaining generic hub overhaul.
Is that a Hope XC hub? If so, I have an exploded diagram somewhere on my laptop (wife is using right now)
Slim, I might have to loose my ghetto ways and invest in a set of those hose clamps! I never looked long enough to see that they were hinged. Good call...

on the front yes, but the troublesome one is an XT one on the rear...

we used to do an adapter for the rear of the x56 bikes. QWuiote popular for a while - but I've not got any left. I'll be runniing opne on my 856 SSWC bike.

fixed it now - however cones are pretty shot as the bearings were rammed so hard against them they have dented! Makes horrible noises as it freewheels!

Wow Orange, you put a lot of rise on your bars! Doesnt that make it awkward on steep climbs?

I need the rise as I have very long legs compared to my arms, so given the seat is way up high, I have to bring the bars up to meet my arms!! I do have the Marzocchi knob though which drops the front suspension a couple of inches and stiffens it so I do that when going up hill!!

you should see the doctor about that , must come from too much riding :)
