Title: magura hs33's...
Post by: 4500_rider on March 27, 2007, 06:23:39 am
... i still have shimano xtr v-brakes on my 4500, want to upgrade to something with a bit more braking power and thought of hs33's from magura... would go with discs but means changing my wheelset thus making things much more expensive.

have heard that as these brakes are so powerful they can actually twist normal alu/ti frames around the brake mounts.... seeing as the 4500 is cf.... this is probably something i should worry about right?  or will the brake boosters that come with the set eliminate this problem?

cheers

The maguras are nice, but they don't have that much power.

If you like your XTRs, and want a little more power, you could upgrade the levers to Avid Ultimate speed dials. The speed dial lets you adjust the leverage on the cable for more or less power. I have Avid speed dial mag ti levers on my Oz. The rear lever I have at max leverage for the rear v-brake. The front I use at minimum leverage for my Avid 185mm mechanical brake. They both match perfectly now.

I have HS33's on the front of one of my bikes and found it to be no better than well set up V's, though it could be I've set them up wrong!!!

No chance! They're not that good!

I can see the Vector legs on my XP-X bow out slightly when I apply the front Magura hard and the Arch Booster would sort this, but I can't be bothered to fit one.

Arch boosters on the 5500, so this is sorted, great braking with excellent modulation.

Great brakes, but no better than a good set of V's

I have a spare set of brand-new HS-33's with power boosters if your interested.  Cost me over £100 a couple of years ago...  unfitted, and all cables are uncut/full length.

Make me an offer if your interested. ;)
